Start an Alaska locals thread. Then you all can post your kick ass shots. I have been to Alaska a couple of times, but havent had the joy of driving there, yet.

    Kodiak is great!

In the midst of one of the coldest and snowiest winters yet. Unbelievable. Snowed every day for about a month and a half.

Been super busy, and haven't had much time to check up on TW. Alaska girls kick ass!

Will post some pictures from fishing. Mods - if you feel like the thread is getting off topic, feel free to move.

Got all of the parts in for my FX-R Retro upgrade - haven't had the motivation to do it. Next up is a custom rear bumper and some sliders.

Standing by...Thanks all for the continued support.

Great to hear you're doing well and staying busy!

Nice pics ... Thanks for sharing them.

We're currently on vacation in San Antonio, TX visiting our son, daughter in law and grandkids. Temps averaging between 70 and 80 during the day...nice break from cold and snow. Fly back to AK Tuesday night.

Take care Jake, and again thanks for the update!--Rob

It is crazy how much snow we got here. I've been here 18 years and never seen a winter like this. It's always an interesting drive from Seward to anchorage especially the frost heaves there pretty much jumps

Hey man, great thread so far. I bought my truck to do just this sometime next year. I'll be following up here and maybe bugging with questions about prepping for the trip.

We are now starting to plan our Al-Can drive for February of 2013. It will be to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Red Lodge, Montana, to Anchorage and back. Any suggestions? We are well seasoned winter lovers. We will have 3 weeks for the whole trip.

    You should come to Kodiak!

Like myself and others have stressed...ensure that you have extra gasoline. In the event that you do run out of gas - or if it is not available; your emergency reserve will be enough to keep your truck running/warm overnight.

I'd suggest that you possibly rent/purchase a satellite phone, or a 406mhz PLB. I was lucky enough to have one with me that I carry on board the boat. Cell phones do not work for much of the trip, and it is very possible to not see any other vehicles throughout the entire day.

Towstrap. No, not a tow rope from Walmart with a hook on each end... Buy yours from a reputable manufacturer - ARB, etc. I've got a 24k pound snatch strap and shackles that ride with me at all times.

    Water/food...kind of self explanatory.

Pretty much all I can think of at the moment. I think everything else has already been covered.

Oh yeah - plenty of paper towels/windex/rags...

The dust was so bad throughout the YT, I had to stop about every fifteen minutes to clean my headlights.

Glad you made it safely. I should've done a post like this when I drove from Nashville TN back home to Palmer AK.. Was fun exhausting irritating sleepless drive but it's one to remember. Me and my dad left Nashville TN Jan 3, around 3pm TN time and pulled into my garage in Palmer Jan 6th at 11am AK time... Lots of redbull and monsters.

    Too many to list now.
Did the driv from so-cal a few summers ago. Awesome thread, that road is amazing. Pics are beautiful, but they can't do it justice. Lived in ak all my life and never intend on leaving. I'd like to make the trip down to a meet in the states though, that's be fun...

    Been super busy!

Tendering over in Larsen Bay, it's a remote village on Kodiak Island. Been here since the 9th of June, haven't had too much time on TW lately. Finishing up tendering late August, then it's on to Halibut longline season. Then it's break time!

Seriously thinking about driving down to Seattle for Thanksgiving, and combining that trip with Fish Expo (Think ComicCon for fisherman...).

Thanks for staying in touch everybody! Trucks changed quite a bit since I arrived, in a good way!

MQQSE, might be getting in touch with you when I'm driving through Palmer.

    Standing by,
    jake

Played around with a welder a few weeks ago..

New M/T 855s, fabbed an IFS skid plate, Hi-Lift bed rail mount, Sliders (waiting to be installed...not enough time right now), Kragen 7" HIDs, FX-R Retro, Blue Seas Aux. fuse panel...

Getting the rocker panels bedlinered in Sept. after this fishing season is over.

    It's getting there!

Stand by to stand by TW...

Looks like I'll be doing another drive down to Seattle by mid-November. Got a new job on a new boat, going to be spending most of my time on the Bering Sea now, and it makes more sense to live in Seattle.

Thinking of starting another Alcan 2012 Thread.

    Stand by,

    jake
