    1. Turn ignition switch off with odometer display showing.
    2. Turn ignition power switch on while holding down trip reset button
    3. hold reset button down for at least 5 seconds. Odometer will display 000000 and maintenance reminder light will go out, and computer will reset.

    Yeah.
Not positive on the 2011, but on my old 2009 and my wife's 2006 4Runner:

With the key in the off position, hold down the odometer trip reset button and turn the key to ON. Keep holding the button for several seconds, the odometer should give you an indication when it is done.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I think on the newer models you have to be on TRIP A to reset. Hold the trip in, turn IGN to ON ( not start) and the it should start resetting.

My information is based on service manual information specific to the vehicle he asked about. It says on his truck to do it with the odometer displayed. However due to the fact that some manufacturers make typo errors, I would say try both and see what works.

I think they changed on the '12, at least that is what the manual seems to indicate.

Which may be true, but OP asked about a 2011. That is what I looked up. I have access to all electronic service information from most every manufacturer out there (I have to in my business)
