If I was in the market, you would be my first stop. Too many amazing reviews on those tires.

Hey, what kind of all terrain tires would you guys recommend for Oregon snow? I'm planning to head out to Klamath Falls for school next fall and I need to get some new tires before I leave. I'm looking for something that will do ok in the snow up there.
    Thanks

I agree 100%, I own a trucking company and some of our drivers still use retreads which they have to replace frequently. I have yet to have any driver that has driven the tire bald. The cap has and will always peel away from the core on a semi before it wears bald. Every terminal chassis' have retreads on them and we have to replace a peeled cap just about every other day. It's worst when the pavement is hot (summer).

The surveys are guesses at best. We don't report peeled caps to the DOT or anyone else that does a survey. 99% of the trucking community doesn't either bother reporting either. I will say that they fail more often than a standard tire.

Goodyear Duratrac's and you can stud them as well since they come pinned for studs.

Pretty much any AT will do "ok". :p

I like BFG ATs, and a lot of people recommend the Goodyear Duratracs. But you can't go wrong with Hankook ATMs either. :p

Haha, right. The AT's I have right now are pretty much shot. Those Duratracs are looking pretty good right now.

I'd be down if they were M/T and a little closer. Mine are starting to get bald :p

Thanks for the backup  Any monkey can find what he wants to read on the internet, but its a far substitute for real world experience ;) No serious pun intended Mike, but its just like watching the news, which I can't anymore... shit is so slanted that its impossible to get the story straight, you just can't trust it.

EDIT: Oh BTW, all.on.black, You guys don't drive em on your steering axles do you? :)

I had a really awesome review done by JP magazine a few months back that's sitting at home. I don't know what is specifically good at snow, but the Duratrecs got a 4/5 across the board from what I remember.
For the main streets and stuff, just be careful of ice, and don't rent something that's on a side of a hill. My friend lived on Grant street and had to do this low speed power slide maneuver to get home or else he'd wreck cars at the bottom.
If you want to do some heavier stuff, you might invest in RUD GRIP chains. Don't underestimate just how cool chains can be in getting you extra traction.

Good to know, I didn't think about a lack of reports being attributed to people just not reporting.

Hey, no prob. I was trying to make sure I was very objective, and I know that you had a lot of emotion running on what you consider an important topic. If you are like me, things can get out of hand at 1am if you don't be careful :) However, I must argue that if it does come to name calling, I'm a chicken, not a monkey
I guess I should step back and say that I'm cautiously optimistic about retreads, as with any info I get from TW. It gets me worked up when I see gut feelings and marketing hype slanting people and getting passed as research. You want a headache, go into the audio & video section. :boom:

I don't watch the news and I keep out of politics when I can. Let me know when a person with Edward R. Murrow's intelligence does the news and we get a president like Roosevelt to lay some smack into the nation.

Yeah I'm coming from a Fender reissue so it's pretty bright and thin. Pups are noisy as hell, lol. The summer weather fixed up the neck a bit so I don't have any dead spots, which is good since my truss adjustment is in the butt end and means disconnecting the neck :( The fix-it stuff on this thing is a bit tedious and I bought the guitar due to the amazing price, but I'm ready to have something that's my choosing now.

I need to have you go to a guitar store with me some time and just try stuff out, plus have you explain to me how to find what I'm looking for. I have an excellent ability of making most any guitar sound like it's been submerged  and the guy showing off plays different stuff with each guitar, so I just nod like a dumbass.

I wish I could find Duratracs in a 32. They seem to be getting great reviews left and right.

Right, I am planning on taking it easy. I don't want to wipe out. Chains are definately a possibility.

Discovering that the previous owner of project did not believe in torquing anything related to the front axle and any of the bolts on the body mounts. Glad I figured that out before rallying it...

So I've been looking at retreads too. I go through a set of tires in a year on average. I'm thinking the stresses a semi puts on a retread versus what my truck does are immensely different. I see myself wearing out the tread before the glue comes undone...what kind of time frame are the semi's blowing up their retreads?

I don't really regulate who has what on their trucks anymore. I can list off the drivers that frequently have tire problems though and they all have retreads. It's a horrible idea to have retreads on the steering axle. Most of the time the cap just peels away and you can pull over, but, sometimes it will peel away and the tire running over it's own cap will cause the tire to burst.

This past week we had one driver that had a cap peel away on his chassis and he ended up running over it that caused one tire to burst and one more to peel a cap. He ended up replacing those three tires with regular tires.

In my opinion they aren't worth it on a semi. On a car that is much lighter I think you might be able to get away with it but I wouldn't do it.
