todays local paper had one of the largest headlines I ever saw.
( the morning call, Allentown PA.)

It simply said "COVERUP", and took up almost the whole width of the paper.
Amazing how these well respected people became absolutely pathetic people by trying to cover up something like this; letting it go on, and then have more kids molested.

Bottom line, it's all about the money! AND IN THIS CASE - pay now, or pay X 1000 down the road. they made that choice by not stopping it when it was first brought to their attention.

I doubt it will cause enrollment to suffer...it's still one of the best public schools in the nation, and if somebody decided to go to state college just because of parties/football, they likely wouldnt be accepted anyway.

    I agree

The major difference will be the civil litigation.

As I've noted, the university is public...meaning the tax payers will be picking up the tab. Whereas, the Catholic church is a private instatution, they paid their own freight.

Not that money is the only issue, but it is a large part of it.

Sadly I feel that if this happened at any other major univ, it most likely would have been handled very simlar.

I dont think the PA tax payers will be on the hook because they still get most of their money from private donations and football.

so...you believe private donations are going to continue to roll in, knowing that much of those funds will go toward litigation (lawyers) and ultimately huge civil payouts?
