    Legal defense.
    Not morally defend.

A public admission of guilt makes it much harder for him to try to fight it or plea bargain it down to a misdemeanor if the DA decides to charge it as a felony.
If there had been any injuries, misdemeanor would be out of the question.

I doubt anyone on this forum has gone through life without doing something that hurt someone in someway. As far as I can see the only thing the OP is guilty of is fucking up one ugly ass brick wall and wrecking his truck. In time he will pay his fines and work his way back into another Tacoma and for the rest of his life he will remember the time when something really bad almost happened and he'll be that much more careful in the future.

We live and we learn,or we die. That's the bargin and the high price we pay for being alive.

Some people have to experience something to learn from it. Some experience it and don't learn from it. I prefer to learn from other peoples experience on this sort of thing. All I can say is be darn sure you do learn from this, thats the only possible positive outcome. Good thing nobody was hurt badly or killed.

I don't drink & drive ... but ... give the man a break ... he had the nuts to admit what he did ... many would have just lied and blown smoke up your azz.

OP ... learn a good lesson from this and always remember it ... and this experience won't be a complete waste.

It's bad enough some fuckstick got drunk and drove home, but to say, "Meh, shit happens" is a special level of douche. I'm not going to go through my own stories, because this is one of those things people just know. And "five beers on an empty stomach"...for fuck sakes. "Five beers on a turkey dinner with a side of beef" would be just as stupid unless it was over 5 hours.

As I said to my friend, "You aren't dead and you didn't kill anyone, so that's good. But no amount of guilt pre-empts me from calling you a moron. Suck it up, Buttercup, and when it blows over we'll all move on. But do it again, and I'll push your face in." It was my girlfriend who saved his ass when I was 5 sheets to the wind and trusted him when he said he could drive, and overheard him later say he was drunk.

I wonder if VSC could have helped prevent this?

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know he was drinking but this kind of shit happens to people that have not been drinking.

We have had 3 hit & runs here recently (with multiple deaths & injuries) ... and the persons didn't even stop to render aid. And when they were caught, they lied. My point was "at lease he admitted what he did was wrong". In NO way do I condone driving while drinking.

This is an "after the fact situation" that he was stating and thank God no one was hurt this time and hopefully he learned his lesson. But he will still have to pay the price in the justice system.

The typical DWI aka DUI here (with no property damage & injuries) is about $25,000.00 when total costs are figured (legal fees, court fees, fines, insurance increases and etc.)

Again, I was not condoning his actions ... just his truthfulness in stating what he did.

    ... ^^^ ... Ditto & well put.

PS ... A cell phone driver will kill your azz as fast as a DWI/DUI driver and they are everywhere. I dodge them several times a day.

I like jail for ALL DUIs & DWIs ... and for wrecks caused by cell phones too. :D

PS ... MADD & DADD is now saying that fatigued drivers can be as dangerous or more dangerous than DWI - DUI drivers ... thrown them in jail too ... they can kill you just as dead.

Damn. Here its only a few grand i think. Reading the paper, last Saturday we had 14 drunk driving arrests, with one guy on his FIFTH arrest.

Hopefully OP learns from this. Everyone here has likely experienced something that they were lucky to survive...but it only helps if you take somethig away from it. Luck runs out.

So, my question is, why don't they give more of a fine and more consequences for distracted driving, speeding and other shit. Its all just as deadly. This slap on the wrist crap is over the top. I also think people with conditions should drive which could cause them to black out. Just recently my dad was rear ended by a young girl texting and driving, the other day some guy blacked out from diabetes flew down the opposite side of the highway at 160km/h and ended up over train tracks.

Let those who have not sinned throw the first rock.

I follow the laws very closely, I don't speed or break any other laws like distracted driving.

Many people I don't even know how they get their licenses in the first place and MANY people should even be able to look at a vehicle let alone drive one.

Glad everyone is ok. And I would really like to know why people insist on breaking laws they are there for a reason. I wouldn't drive if I even took a swig of alcohol.

thanks for posting OP. you're ok regardless of what people in here say about you. the fact that you posted shows that you're not the guy who is going to be a problem recidivist although you have to understand some extremists are not going to cut you any slack.
