Wrong. First off, the true meaning of "separation of church and state" refers SOLELY to the fact that our Founding Fathers wanted to protect religion from interference by the state, NOT the other way around. The other way around is simply a creation of the ACLU and others who share their taste for revisionist history.

Second, the term "religion" when used in the the context of the "separation of church and state", clearly and specifically refers to Christian Theism.

Finally, research the Trinity Decision of 1892. This Supreme Court of the United States clearly states that the US is a "Christian Nation".

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
if it is a seperation...then that goes both ways...u cant be seperate one way and bound together in the other, it completely negates the term of seperation.

Separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other.[1] The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of government and freedom of religious exercise.[2]
The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to the letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists, in which he referred to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as creating a "wall of separation" between church and state.

Jefferson was a major player in the discussion of the seperation.

I am way to late in this conversation to get involved. but my .02. .... Georgetown should be ashamed of themselves for covering up their religion. Second, if President Obama is infact Christian then shame on him for hiding his religion for the sake of others. Third the speech never should have taken place at that location. I am sure there were other locations that could have been used.

Also, the separation of church and state is a 2 way street. But it was mostly set up to prevent Government from dictating religious beliefs and what religions can and can't be practiced. The founding fathers wanted to ensure citizens would be able to practice whatever religion they wanted.

Unless he were doing it to downplay what TacoCo mentioned. A lot of fodder was made about him being messianic. http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/

I would think if it were trying to deny his Christianity, he wouldn't have used a biblical passage in his speech.
