Just a bunch of old crap
I have zero sympathy for any drunk drivers. One wrecked head-on into me and my family years back and we all walked away and he died. Justice served for putting myself, my wife, my stepdaughter and my unborn son in immediate danger.

It's hilarious that everyone assumes any accident that has a drunk driver involved, it is automatically his fault. There a lot horrible drivers who run red lights and can't change lanes safely even while sober.

So when a bad driver who is sober runs a red light and hits a drunk driver who has the green, it is automatically the drunk driver's fault?

Serious? Its the same as when you go through a "random license checkpoint" and you are drunk. The second you operate that vehicle impaired, you are in violation of the law. Simple

Actually no, you're not. You have to be pulled over for a legitimate reason in order for the charge to stick. A lot of people are able to walk from DUI's with a lawyer because the cops violated their rights. Believe it or not, they don't have free reign to pull you over and toss you in jail.

Random check points have to be completely random. I've seen people walk from those because the officers thought they should stop a car that looked suspicious.

This thread oozes hypocrisy, 90% of the naysayers are guilty of the offense in question.

What's especially amusing is the children under 21 saying "when I drink I never drive".

Yes, however most "random" checkpoints are authorized by a judge, its titled "random" because they do not tell the public.

Yes they infringe a lot on our rights. Do you have a license? Did you know that is not required either but people get operating without a license citations all the time. Look up right to travel vs privilege to drive.

As long as the officer has probable cause you can be stopped for what the officer chooses. I do agree with you on our rights being infringed upon daily, but once you wave those rights you no longer have them.

Stick on hood scoop from Autozone.
I've had plenty of drinks in both Canada and Mexico. I've also had the opportunity to drive afterwards. I'm not stupid enough to drink alcohol and then drive my car afterwards.

It's amusing that some people take drinking and driving so lightly.

Random checkpoints do not mean that they can stop any car that looks suspicious. There has to be a documented routine. I've seen people walk cause the Officer saw a lifted tacoma and chose (correctly) that the guy was DUI. A lawyer got him off because it wasn't a random stop.

That's my point, the Officer needs to have probable cause a crime is being committed. Seeing a lifted SUV drive by at midnight (I got pulled over for this, cop gave me a ticket saying I ran the stop sign (Total lie)) is not probable cause.

What pisses me off is cops abuse their power and catch people. What happens to the one's where they blatantly had their rights violated but can't afford a lawyer?
Yes. How many people here are going to sit here and claim they haven't met their friends for happy hour after a long week of work and drove home after a couple?

Hopefully no one ever does, but if you see a child taken from a family because of a drunk, or your father is now handicapped because of a drunk you will have no patience and no sympathy for them.

    It's a choice, that simple.

So what's next? Random home searches for the "good" of public safety? How about stop and search laws?

When you see someone's kid die from a drug overdose you'll have no sympathy for dealers. We should clearly be allowed to randomly search homes.

    See how that works?
