Please tell me you didn't solder the wires together with the harness still in the deck...

and grounding the rca..to the deck..?? explain a bit more

Ya i bet you melted something on the inside of the deck.

Soldering irons get freaking hot, the heat goes through anything metal it touches, so by leaving the harness attached, the super heated wire sent heat through whatever else that wire was connected too.

 

Ya but PCB board melts way easy. You supposed to use a 15w soldering iron on PCB, 20w at most 25 is pushing it.

 

um... call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure RCA's are not supposed to be grounded... I'm amazed that anything works like that, let alone the fact that it somehow fixed your problem

 

Ya they do. RCAs are what we audio ppl call "unbalanced" cable. It has a signal wire in it and ground.

Microphone cable is balanced. It has a ground and a positive signal wire and negative signal wire. The negative actually has the exactly 180* inverted version of the positive's signal, this helps block any outside noise the cable could pick up(from power cables usually), when it get into the sound board, the board re flips the negative signal so that it matches the positive and the all the noise is now 180* outa phase thus canceling out.

I see. Interesting. I would think it would be easier to push an AC signal through the RCA's so that the head unit was the only device converting the signal from DC to AC rather than the head unit doing it for it's speakers and the amp doing it for it's speakers. Must not make much of a difference I guess or it would have been done along time ago.

 

Well really everything electric is DC. The only point of AC is that AC can travel long long distances. Everything tho then converts it back to DC.

 

Yes I know that, but speakers are also AC. DC current and speakers don't get along very well. I was just reading up on it some and apparently DC current makes speakers get really hot (unless it is a very low amount of power) and they don't pulse like they should.

 

Sorta AC..all it is is a positive voltage moves the speaker out, negative pulls it back.

 

I don't know/remember enough to counter that. I want to say electricity is a little more black and white than that, but I would just be pulling random shit out of a hat of nothingness. haha

Ask me again in 3 years and I can probably tell you way more than you could ever care to know. haha.
