Painting chrome rear bumper

Anyone in here ever color match their rear chrome bumper? Thinking about doing mines. I've color match everything(door handles, grille,mirrors,badges). Those where easy and small pieces. The only thing left is this big a** chrome piece.

 

try to get the chrome off. IIRC etching primer works good over chrome.

 

so pretty much sand it down to where you can't see chrome anymore?

 

Sand it down really well, spray a few coats of adhesion promoter, spray 2-3 coats of self etching primer, 2-4 coats of you're paint, then clear coat. My $0.02

pretty much did what AK Taco said. turned out great and have no problems with the paint.

So whos going to get into painting parts as a side job??

 

*UPDATE*

sanded it down pretty well(I think haha). pics doesn't say much but the bumper is in the dull side. almost a stainless steel sink look. what do you guys think, is this good enough to prep for painting?

 

How well is it holding up?

 

I finished it 2 weeks ago. ain't no factory paint job, but came out just as I wanted to. little shadow here and there but only noticeble up close. so far holding up strong
