It can blow out axle seals and bend stuff....will it everytime-No...but if you need to move that much stuff on a regular basis- I would get a bigger truck or a trailer.

i know it doesn't add HP, but it's better than the stock 3 leaf i had. Not to mention it doesn't bottom out my truck, and it hauls the load just fine.

Don't yell at me, I'm sensitive :p but with the 4 leaf pack, I hauled a ton of rocks about 20 miles once. I drove gingerly and only felt that I hit bottom once in the trip. It is not the kind of thing I don't want to do often but it can be done but not recomended.

I did something stupid on Saturday. I and three friends (thats 800 lbs) picked up a yard of sand for horseshoe pits. Bucket operator said the sand is 2800 lbs, and advised I take two trips. Half the load on board, the truck hadn't sagged much, so I said "gimme another half", meaning half a half-yard bucketful. He thought I meant half yard and put it all in (gently, mind you).
So with 3600 lbs of sand and pancake-stuffed men on board, I carefully drove 14 miles home.

No problem at all. No bottoming out, no groaning, no excessive rear-end sag.

God, I'm lucky. I won't do that again.

I really doubt that you had that much weight in your truck. What kind of springs do you have? My stock truck couldn't carry more than 700lbs in the bed without being on the bump stops.

Propjet, your truck weight is the exact same as mine. The day after I bought the truck I took it to the scales and it weight 2500 front and 1880 rear. It is a 2012 DCLB sport nav tow, stock full of fuel. As you stated I was shocked to se that I was already 1070 from the trucks gvw. I plan on reweighing the truck I have since added a few guns and ammo ( est 75 lbs) under the back seat, 20 inch wide tool box (est 60 lbs) in the bed with tools ( est 200 lbs) plus my work bag and fire gear since I have to travel between fire stations every shift (est 60 lbs) and myself 200 lbs. as I drive it daily I am less then 500 lbs from the gvw, however I would not hesitate for a second to put 1500 lbs in the bed and haul as far as I needed to go. I don't think the gvw is end all be all, but it would be nice if they disclosed that with the cab full of passengers your about t your max gvw or consider upping it to more like 6000 as long as you have even weight distribution on box axels.

I dunno about GVWR and all that. All I know is I had 620 lbs of dirt, rock, and tree limbs in the bed (before/after weighed at the landfill), a Leer topper, 190 lbs of me, a 60 lb Lab, and there was about 2.5 inches left to the bump stop on flat ground with the dirt and rock in the bed. 4 leafs.

1070 lbs apx over curb weight. It could take another 300 lbs behind the cab easily, plus another 400 in the cab. You're not gonna have many problems carrying weight with a Tacoma.

    08 Tacoma TRD o/r stock
    Hi everyone,, :)
    I have an 08 Tacoma d-cab v6 6 speed,, bone stock/ 4 leaf.

I have tried and tested my little Taco,, I just had to see, so
I took a load of steel to the scrap,, exactly 155 steel plates of 15 to 16 lbs. each. So basically I had over 2300 lbs. in my little 5' box!!! I did not go over 80 km/h ;) for about 20 km.

All I can say is that I would NEVER do that again !!!,, it was way too much. lollll I was driving on the bump stops alllll the way there,
After that load,, I limited myself to 100 plates max.

On a regular basis I load my 650 lbs. genset along with all my welding gear, it's good around the city!!
Other times I do load my 800 lbs. atv in the box--- it's ok, just a bit of sag, but in the end I would not go on a cross-crountry trip with more than 500 lbs. in the back.
The sag and the fuel consumption is too high in these little trucks when loaded. The trucks can take it,, just not like an F350 lolll ;)

So in the end, I recommend you load your truck,, and try it out!! it's the best way.

    The spring issue has to be thought of like this;
Inadequate springs will reduce your payload capacity. Excessive springs will not increase it.

As far as the semi-floating rear axle goes, you could always upgrade the rear axle, however, that won't change what it says on the sticker, so although it realistically may be able to support more weight, the cops won't agree. After all, if they agreed, they wouldn't be able to write you a ticket.

And then there are also the brakes to consider. Doesn't matter if your axles can hold up the titanic if your brakes can't make it not move.
