Since we are on the topic and Colton seems to know his stuff, what are some good headlights for a 2nd gen. I browsed around a little several months ago for some HIDs but didn't find much. I know too little about head lights... I just know that mine suck...

What I did find is that I think some bi-xenons would be sweet:D but I have no idea what all is involved to do that kind of an upgrade...

So... Are you asking me to break down all of your options: Pros, cons, etc? lol first off, what's your budget?

Haha. Not sure what my budget would be at the moment.

How about just a brief run through of what it would take to install some HID's or bi-xenon's? Like I believe I have to get ballast's and the bulbs, but would I also have to upgrade to a whole new housing or could I just use the factory?

I don't need a detailed run down of this brand/model is good as this may not be something I do anytime soon.

Alright Brady... Here it comes. I'll give you a summarized rundown of the different options (though I should put together a detailed version at some point or another)

Stock Housings & Stock Bulbs: With the stock setup you will get decent foreground coverage and width in the beam. In foggy or tough conditions they do well to cut through the crud due to their lack of UV output.

Stock Housings & Aftermarket Bulbs (75w+): I have seen some good things from this setup. A guy I know is running 75/100w bulbs in his Tacoma and I honestly was pretty impressed. They put some great light down and the weak points are supported by the additional output of the bulbs. I think he even got them at NAPA or somewhere like that. They don't blind when behind you on the road either. For >100 bucks you can't really beat this. Most questionable thing is the longevity on a halogen bulb pushing that kind of wattage through it. I say plan to replace bulbs yearly, though that is entirely a guess.

Stock Housings & HID Bulbs: I don't even know what to say about these babies. I had a set of drop-ins and ran them for about a year. I had 6000k bulbs and I actually liked them. I thought they put out pretty good light and thought they looked good as well. I had people bitch at me often about how they look inside the cab (they reflect off of street signs bad because HID bulbs put out UV light) as well as driving against me. If you are gonna go this route, for the love of all things holy, please make sure the bulb has a shield on it and you go 4300k bulb temp.

D2S Projector: Having been there, done that, I say don't spend the money. Yeah, they look cool and all, but the output just doesn't justify the ~$400 to do the retro correctly. They have a solid cutoff, but the light that is under the cutoff just isn't all that impressive. For a mini retro, the H1 is a much better option.

FX-R Projector: One of the best projector setups you can get for a vehicle like ours. Very sharp cutoff and very intense light under the cutoff. Definitely better than the stock setup. My only complaints thus far is that they wobble a bit on rough roads (may be due to the fact that the projector is heavy in there or lackluster installation. I did not assemble the set that I am running) and the fact that there IS a cutoff. If you spend a lot of time offroad, projectors are probably not the route for you. I like light everywhere when I am offroad... And for one reason or another when I am out, I don't feel like projectors give me as much lighting all over as they are such a defined beam. Better than stock? Of course. Worth the money? Maybe... If you a) like the retro look b) don't offroad a lot or c) supplement them with spot lighting.

So there you go Brady. Little rundown of the possible setups for you

I see. Thanks. That helps:D I just looked up the FX-R 3.0 and it says they are bi-xenon. I can't remember for sure, but I thought the non-bi xenon bulbs were basically stuck on dim, while the bi-xenon's have both dim and bright. Wouldn't setting them to bright eliminate the cutoff?

    Okay. Bixenon.

Bixenon pretty much means that there is a relay that designates hi-beam and low beam for a HID bulb. For drop in bulbs, the relay sends a signal to the bulb to seat differently within the housing therefor moving the light beam upwards. For a projector, the relay tells the shield in front of the HID bulb to drop or be up. So yes, setups that are not bi-xenon are always on one beam pattern. This would be what you want if you had a vehicle that used different bulbs for high and low beams for example.

Adam!!! Details of said vehicle!!! That was a cool drop into the conversation though:thumbsup:

I had heard of the shield moving version, not the bulb moving version. Are your bulbs xenons? bi or non? Just curious since you said you don't really like them for offroading.
