Don't use gas after you start tiniting and try another can of tint, I know some spray paints get fucked up in the shipping going from a cool wear house to a super hot trailer. Or its just a bad batch.

Thanks for the How-To Goo5e! I picked up a cheap set of spare OEM's off of Kijiji awhile back. This weekend I decided to go ahead and give this little project the green light. I followed the steps you layed out and used a little intuition with the detail. I am utimately pleased with the result. Here is a couple pics.....hopefully smokey stays outta my grille...:D

you have several pictures of final coats to use. this means any coat besides the night shade will be the final? such as use satin black paint? or do u need the clear coat?

You might consider clarifying your question.

If I read this right you want to use actual black paint as a final coat?

If so DON'T DO IT. That paint is not transparent at all no matter how light the coat is.

After you apply the amount of VHT on the light the only thing after that should be sprayed is clear coat.

Well i did the satin finish paint with 1 light coat. gave it a little more darkness which was nice. and still very transparent even in daylight.

BTW GOOD writeup. Very easy to do by yourself.
    heres some pics.

I did this one my taco last night. It turned out a bit darker than I was anticipating, but I like it and it is still easy to see at night, plus I am going to put LED bulbs in my tail lights soon so that should make it a little bit brighter. Good write up! I'll post pics soon.

If you want to tint and don't want to commit to it being permanent, you can alway use vinyl. I got a roll of RVinyl 24x48 on Amazon (to have plenty for error) for $20. If you go with light smoke it will give the same results as the pictures, but if you get drama from the law or inspection you can just peel it off. Takes quite a bit of patience, but that's why I got more than I needed.
