Are you getting bad MPG?

my 4cyl Prerunner Manual w/225k gets mpg as advertised even after the miles stacked up. Also, I'm running 15w50 so that eats away 2mpg. 2.5" lift didn't affect it at all, The camper probably ate away another mpg. Winter/Summer gas didn't affect my mileage, it's the ambient temp that affects the viscosity of my oil that affects my mpg. I even got 28mpg once driving from San Francisco to Seattle.

 

my milage is right at the point where i am noticing it, but its not that bad. im getting right around 15.9 from what the ultragauge says, I have a lead foot sometimes and my truck is sitting 3" higher so i say for how my truck sits and how i drive my MPG is right around normal.

 

Someone explain to me why MPG matters in a truck? That said my new rubi w/ the 3.6 285 HP motor has been getting 19 combined per the computer... that my taco doesnt have... do the 2012 tacos have a computer that calculates this stuff or must you still go aftermarket... I'm thinkin' if mileage is an issue you'd be sporting a prius

 

My MPG isn't bad but I think it could be better. I'm getting 15.? on my recent fill up. But I think once I get past the Break in period it should improve. SO no worries

 

2003 extra cab v-6----yesterdays fill-up, hair OVER 20MPG

 

I'm getting 17.2 avg since the truck was new. If I throw out the camper and trailer hauling numbers, I'm getting over 19.

 

Over the course of 12 fill ups I am averaging 20.45 mpg. I think it's great. Much better than my Ram quad 1500 wich was 12-14 mpg.

 

i get 12mph if i drive like grandma! lmao im running 33s on 2.5 inch lift. i dont care i love my Truck !

 

I'm running 33's on a 2 1/2" lift and have a 300lb cap and get 16-17 mph

 

The cap helps a lot even with the added weight. What kills my mileage is my MTR's

 

I've got an 09 Sport with TRD catback and a AFE drop in. Stock suspension and A/T tires.

While towing a 4500lb trailer, i was seeing 15 MPG
Highway driving only 21MPG
Highway/city avg of about 19.5-21

Can't complain at all, wifes civic gets 34 MPG.

 

I get over 20

 

Bought my 2011 Prerunner in Oct, 2011 and overall average up until 8/14/2012 is 19.08 MPG with the best being 22.6 MPG in May, 2012.

 

Like others have said speed is the biggest factor in MPG. I drive 50+ miles round trip to and from work about 99% freeway. I notice that if I drive aggressive with a lot of lane changing and going around 65-70 mph my mpg is at around 19-20. If I just stick in the slow lane and go steady around 60 mph with peaks into 65 mph, I usually get 23-24 mpg.

I notice if I stay under the 2k rpm mark I get noticeably better gas mileage, but if I go over the 2k rpm for extended amount of time my gas mileage drops pretty good.

This is where I wish I still had a stick, in my previous cars I could always get way better gas mileage than was advertised simply by shifting much earlier than I needed.

 

I have a toll way next to my house and its the easiest way to get in and out of the city (Austin). The speed limit is 80 MPH and at that speed with the automatic I'm right at 2400 RPM's. Because of the faster speed and higher RPM my mileage actually takes a few mile and hour decrease while on the toll. So I have noticed the close to 60 I drive the better mileage I get. I have also started to try to keep it under 2k when possible which has helped.

But like most people say you don't drive the best truck in the world for the mileage.

 

mine sucks, 14.5 driving like a grandpa... going back to highway tires soon, thinking about exhaust and CAI, one step at a time.

 

I don't think it matters what you're driving, as long as gas costs money, MPG matters, period. I know it's a truck, it doesn't mean people won't try to get better MPG.

 

Unfortunately I need some form of 4x4 around here to deal with the muddy roads and lake effect snowstorms, and I hate when dead deer bleed in the back of an SUV, hence the bed. Only allowed parking space for one car... you get the picture.

If my truck got 15-16 mpg my typical miles would cost $300+/mo with $4 gas. If I stay above 22 mpg that drops to less than $220/mo.

That's eighty bucks I'd rather keep.

Plus, if I carpool the grocery run, I can go two weeks on a tank of fuel even though work is 20 miles away from here. Kind of nice.

Maybe I need to move to Texas. Less snow there.

 

The truck already has a well designed CAI. The only intake modification that people report has any noticeable affect on MPG is a snorkel. *MAYBE* an AFE pro dry drop in. All an exhaust system will help you do in the MPG department is lighten your wallet.

 

19-21 City 21-22 Hwy, 08 Prerunner Doublecab, guy in my office gets the same with his exact same truck but 09, the other guy in the office has a 04. And we all had them before we knew each other, speaks loads about our trucks.
