just learned something on the weather channel :) they were showing an area of the SE where they were expecting some record highs, interestingly this area just set some record lows- the reason- abnormally low humidity. With low humidity the air warms (and cools) much more easily

that would explain why we were 111 one day, a day and a half later we woke up to 48 degrees- a 63 degree swing, with high humidity that would be next to impossible

Funny how accurate that is. I can't tell you how many long swims, rides or runs I've been on and tried to calculate splits and current pace and it is just maddening how difficult it can be when your fatigued. Funny, I thought it was just me!

go another low 30 week in this past week, 31.9 miles (Tues 6.3,Wed 13, Sat 6.2, Sun 6.4)

ran my long run on Wed, it was tough as it was closer to my previous long run on the Sat prior, got my long run in earlier as I got roped into a 10k trail run this Sat- reinforced what I already knew, I can run pretty far, but I can't run pretty fast :D

I've got a nice 19 mile loop picked out for this coming Saturday; the weather has been horrid- highs into upper 90's and 100's for almost two weeks now- have a short window in the morning to run before it becomes almost unbearable :(

    pretty good week, 34.9 miles T 6.4, W 6.0, Sat 19.0, Sun 3.5

the 19 miler was pretty tough, had to nurse along a couple of blisters and towards the end of the run legs were really getting fatigued, but it was an awful pretty run :) saw a plethora of wildlife, several mule deer (including a couple of does w/ new fawns), several antelope, couple of coyotes, golden eagle, couple of redtail hawks, bunch of sharptail and sage grouse (that would usually let me get within in yards before flushing and scare the crap out of me!), all kinds of prairie song birds

never saw a person, and very little sign of man- like running on the prairie a 100 years ago!

I'm confident NJ has lots and lots of pretty places :D I've done a fair bit of traveling around the US and am always very pleasantly surprised what a beautiful country we live in :)

btw the thread is doing something weird, showing about 5 extra pages, but clicking on them brings you right back to here???

The server is going through a data rebuild thing after a failed drive was replaced last night. Everything should straighten itself out in the next day or so. :)

another pretty good week, 35.2 miles Tues 6.2, Thurs 6.0, Sat 13.0, Sun 10.0

this is in despite of our record heat wave, I've been getting up at 4:00 AM to run and even that doesn't insure cool temps (well cooler than the heat of the day anyways)

my run this morning was in the hills, beautiful sunrise (except I blew the shot!)

one of many meadows when you get on top

this will be a relatively light week as I'm hoping to get to Bozeman and do a recce of the Bridger Ridge route

congrats :) you're well on your way, 20 miles a week builds a great base to build from- just insure to build up moderately- ~10% is a pretty widely accepted increase; this will help keep overuse injuries down

as I also like to ratchet it back every 3-4 weeks after bumping distances up- gives the body time to recover/rejuvenate

My suggestions for trail runners won't help much then :) I'd highly recommend finding a dedicated running store, they usually have very knowledgeable folks and will most often start by asking a lot of questions about your running. They then will normally put you on a treadmill and actually observe your running. This will give them a pretty good idea where to start and probably will have you try on several shoes. Fit is king when it comes to running shoes and this gives you a high probability of getting the right shoe from the start.
