A gun is a tool. It can be used for good or evil. Fearing a gun is irrational and misguided.
Shooting someone who is wearing a vest is still an option. A vest keeps the bullet from penetrating, but will not prevent damage. Mass*velocity=force applied, IIRC. It should slow them down enough for a head shot.
I know I can function with CS gas in the room. I have already proven that I can function during high stress situations. I hope I never have to be put in a place to use deadly force, but would do it. I make it a point to avoid having to use it, but in this situation, it would be necessary.
Don't project your cowardice or lack of training and experience on others. You may be a sheep, others are not.

Damn just learned that he bought a ticket, watch 20minutes of the movie, when out a side door, propping it open to his car parked right by the door pick up pistol, shot gun, and an assault rifle with 50 round barrel clip and went back inside. Threw gas, shot two round in the air to incite panic, and then opened fire. When he finished walked out the back door, was confronted by police and surrendered. He is very twisted.

I'm amazed that he didn't get drilled by the officers that confronted him. But I wasn't there so whos to say.

^ Good! I've never been in tear gas, but I know I can function in high stress situations as well. I'm frequently in a smoke filled room haha!

    Good point on vest btw!

    Link?

If I watched someone walk out and prop the door open that would be a huge red flag right there....

    The better coast
I know this was not directed at me but here are my thoughts

Personally even if I had a weapon on me I most likely would not have taken the chance at saving the day. Not from a "I don't think I can make the shot" perspective but from a situational perspective.

The cops are dealing with, as others have said, a dark theatre, gas, hetic situation etc... they are looking for a gun man with and come across you holding a gun. That's another thing they have to take in, process evaluate and decide on what to do putting more stress on the actual trained professionals.

That being said...If this was like that cafe robbery where the old guy pulled his gun then yes I would have done the same thing. Different environment and situation.

I'm not bashing you, just my two cents.

Seriously guys, you're fucking stupid. Nobody thinks you're cool for saying "oh man if I had a concealed weapon I would've ended this" on the internet. Calling these people "sheep" because they didn't have a gun is highly insensitive and moronic. I guarantee you if you were there, having a gun would've done nothing and you would not have made anything better by "getting a shot off".

There was an ex-cop on the radio saying how the cops wouldn't even go in there shooting, and that the average guy who practices shooting pieces of paper are probably the last guy you want trying to take down someone. It's all well and good to say, "Well, I have better training...", but the point is, your average CCW isn't going to, and the last thing you want to do is be caught in the cross-fire of a John Wayne wanna-be and a guy in a gas mask wearing body armour. You want to shoot a guy breaking into your house, or threatening you bodily on your property, I'm not going to argue much. But having 16 people in a dark theatre all trying to play hero would probably not end well.

Were it me, I'd be trying to get out. Were I with my family, I'd be shoveling them in front of me, standing as big enough to protect my kids, but still trying to present a small target. Trying to play hero means a better chance of getting killed and not getting my family out of there. Short of that, fetal postion on the floor, probably on top of my kids. And if I was able to sneak up on him, say from the opposite side of the theatre, I'd think about it. But chances are, only if I was afraid I wasn't getting my family out. And if the smell of fecal matter in my drawers wasn't too over-powering.

There would have been some time for the gas to spread but it was opening night of a very popular movie and the guy came in during a gun fight scene. The people there might have thought it was part of the show and not realized that things had gone wrong until the room was filled with smoke and people were getting shot.

10-4 I'm also going on what I feel in the situation my actions along with anyone Else's actions may be different because of all the variables.

I'm not one for "saving the day" but my main point is if I know my chances of being shot are higher then usual (obviously in this situation) I wouldn't just wait for it you know? As much as I don't want to die if I'm going to die I'm atleast going to attempt to get a shot into him.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be crazy or hectic or a hopefully once in a lifetime experience that no one should ever have to go through.

yep, ..no way of knowing w/out these scenarios actually playing out... you are correct in that each individual faced a different "situation" in there, much of which would've been determined as their "cards were delt to them", ...but being alert and prepared is always a better defense than "condition white" and helpless... sometimes "fight" may be the best option, and sometimes "flight" might be the best option - the environment and scenario largely influence how these cards are delt... ;) being at "ground zero" of the incident would've had different (probably much less) options than being near an exit...

I understand but (if the news is right which it might not be), the guy got up and walked out and propped the door open. Big red flag, I like to know what's going on and why (because of crap like this). Not saying that it would have helped but as said before I still would rather try and die then practically be on my knees.

Now with that said don't take this as me saying I would have started firing off shots towards him without looking, or regard to the public because as said earlier that would make me a killer as well.

So many variables it's pretty much impossible to figure it out, where were you sitting? What do you have? What did you notice? How much time do you have? Who's around (friends family)? Nearest exit? Gas coming your way yet? Has he left the theater and left the door open yet?

Let's say your normal carry gear is a pistol, light, back up mag, among your regular stuff cell phones keys etc.

In this situation a light wouldn't do much because of the gas. Your pistol would do something if you can see him and get a decent shot.

Depending on where you were sitting you might have a quick easy clear shot.

Ie right beside the door he went out, your sitting there and notice something roll in and then it goes off and then you hear two shots, then he walks in. I want to say you have enough time to get a shot off, now I may be completely wrong.

It didn't quote but I'm talking to who you quoted,

    Guarantee huh?

So if he walked out the door right beside someone propped it open, tossed in tear gas that rolls past you, then two shots go off and he walks back in and aims towards the up side of the theater and said person had a gun he couldn't have ended it?

You do not know any of us, and to say that those here who disagree with your (wild west) attitudes are cowards or sheep is ludicrous!! I am FAR from being a coward. My ass has been on the line defending your rights, so don't you DARE come up calling ME a coward. Unless you want to step your ass up and slip on that green uniform, strap an ALICE pack on your back, and stand a front line, don't you dare say those people are cowards!!!!!
