Mass shooting in Colorado theater....

I read and heard "VEST" earlier.

That doesn't change much of anything. A helmet doesn't protect the face.

I have my CCW and it is all about addressing the situation at hand, in this case like everyone has said, who knows how we would have really reacted depending on our specific case. I know I wouldn't just start shooting at the guy right off the bat.

 

Absolutely (no where did i say I would just start shooting) right.

 

And accurately aiming at somebody's head through a crowd with tear gas while you're being fired at would not be an easy task.....

 

Thoughts and prayers to the victims. Let's not all get wrapped up in the Monday Morning Quarterbacking... after the fact it's always easier to say what could have been done differently.

But even a "competent" pistol shooter, in a crowded theatre, with people running and screaming, in the dark, with teargas....etc, etc... at 25 yards cannot guarantee he will only hit the bad guy.

 

...w/ history as a guide, ...one thing we can count on is the LSM to get all the facts wrong about this over the next 48hrs at least... ...indiscriminant reporting driven by hype and ideology trumps facts...

 

I guess that depends greatly on where you are in relation to the shooter. There's a good chance you wouldn't have to shoot through any crowd.

Here's where I can say that I've actually been shot. Trust me, it gets your attention and the last thing you're thinking of when it happens is "Keep shooting!" No, it's more like "What the fuck was that!? GET DOWN!" And I don't mean dance, either.

Okay, so forget the CCW debate and if shooting through smoke is doable, because none of us were there and we all have varying experiences with taking out a target or not.

The only thing I'm waiting to hear about in the news related to this is if anyone tried to stop the guy in any way. If the three or four nearest men to him bum rushed him without hesitation instantly I would think lives could have been saved. But I don't want to speculate any more beyond that until we know more facts. I still think evil like this is disgusting and indifference is even more so. . . Maybe everyone in there did everything they could and maybe some of the wounded took a bullet trying to tackle the guy or cover up women and children. then again, maybe there were a couple guys who could have ended it all but ran instead of facing him. Debating over it without the facts is useless.

I think the rest of this thread should be committed to finding ways to contribute to helping out if we can. . . Someone mentioned above about donating to help out the victims. Anyone got any links on that sort of stuff? So those who want to can contribute

The final result would have been so much worse if other people had guns as well.

So a guy opens fire in a dark cinema, and most of the theatre's patron's vision is obscured with tear gas and people scrambling for their lives. As a result of this a dozen other people draw their guns and try to eliminate the shooter in a dark room. All of a sudden, people think there are multiple gunmen in the theatre and everybody opens fire on each other.

The likely consequence of such a scenario would have been that half of the people inside that theatre are dead, rather than the 12 that were killed.
