That is my point though. Back in the day you could still be a Marine and in the SEALS. Now you have to leave.

My comment, in case you didn't notice, was more directed towards humor. As for your "Top 5" reasons:
    1. In a SMALL unit (i.e. SEALS) having a closeness with the officers is a good thing, and that is fine, but with larger groups, you need the separation of officers to have unit cohesion. It has been a staple of military life for longer than you or I have been alive.
    2. Again, SEALS are a specialized unit. Just as the Marines have their special forces, and Army has their Delta, Specialized units are always at work, not just the SEALS. The SEALS couldn't do their job without the support of the transports who take them where they go, or extract them when their "mission" is over. If you join the SEALS, you will soon learn that though they are awesome as all hell, they do not have the "elitism" attitude that they don't need any help..
    3. Just because a "war" is over, does not mean the rest of the military don't keep working or training.
    4. Nothing wrong with the haircut I had. I was quite happy to be nearly bald.
    5. I looked just fine in my sunglasses, thank you, and that pressed Marine Dress Blues had no problem attracting the ladies!:D

    Lots.
    I'm sorry I can't respond. I'm busy staring at your sig :D

BTW, I agree with everything you said... except for 4 and 5. I got to meet guys at the logistics support units, support activities guys, SWCC, everyone was great. SEALs certainly couldn't do their job without them.

lol. well you don't expect us to walk around in long hair like the Navy do you?.....lmao. Just teasing. Besides, even the Army and Navy guys I served with always kidded with me about wearing my blues when we went out. They said I had to not wear them so that the others had a fighting chance with the ladies. This is from Army and Navy personell !

I can assure that never happened or existed. Whoever told you that was FOS. There may have been some Marines who went through BUDS and inter-service transferred to the Navy. You could never be a Marine and a SEAL. To be a SEAL = Being in the US Navy.

It doesn't make any sense. Why would the Marine Corps allow it when they have their own RECON teams?

Exactly what he said ^^^ The Marine Corps is Department of the Navy...The Mens department! (Sorry, couldn't resist that one!!!)

And no, to the one who said it, they are not FOS, because I met the man, and he was a Navy SEAL during a portion of his service....never left the Marines, and even wore his Marine uniform when they were out doing "non-SEAL" activities such as the Marine Birthday Ball, where I met him.

So have I. One was a chopper pilot. They were all in the Navy and left to pursue other things.
Yah, so believable. One guy wore a trident so it must be true. He was super soldier they let him stay in the Marines to be a SEAL

He may have went through BUDS and got his pin, but I bet he was a special case that never served on the Teams. There have been some who went through to start MARSOC, but no one to my knowledge has ever stayed a Marine and been in the teams.

He was a person friend of mine while he was at our unit. and he had no reason to lie about his service. It was not a simple believing he wore the trident so it must be true. He is a man I knew and served with.

To confirm I will call him tonight and verify what I have said.

I don't really care. I'm just trolling a Marine because it's too easy. If the guy truly has a pin and somehow worked out a way to be a SEAL in the Marine Corps that's great on him. I have a hard time buying it though. Why not just go to Recon if you're a Marine?

Because not everyone follows your way of thinking. There are several Coasties with tridents who actively served with the SEAL teams. I would argue getting selected for a "joint" spec ops program is harder than getting picked up for your own services spec ops branch....

Some, Suspension and stuff, tires, maybeh some armor.
I have heard stories like this too. Former SEALs who want to keep serving and playing in the water, just don't want to be shot at and deployed abroad anymore.

There's only 3 that have graduated so far. Hardly several. And technically it's still 2012. The Coast Guard guys still owe some years before they go back to the Coast Guard.

The way the instruction reads, it requires an inter-service transfer to the Navy. Least that's how I read it.

    http://www.uscg.mil/announcements/ALCOAST/ALCOAST36708.txt

Or maybe not, but they still belong to the Navy for the time being. I would guess they do become part of the Navy for manpower and legal issues. At least on paper.

    http://blog.usnavyseals.com/2010/05/two-coast-guard-officers-earn-navy-seal-tridents.html

This blog says that they are the first two ever to be assigned to the Teams from another service. So even if they are really Coasties at heart, until they return to the Coast Guard they belong to the U.S. Navy.

    http://www.navyseals.com/12-coasties-being-considered-seal-training
This article says they'll only technically be part of the Coast Guard and not required to return.

So, based on my military experience, I naturally had a hard time believing some NCO from the Marine Corps was given the same opportunity the elite Coasties got. Especially when this is a relatively new program that got axed almost right away.

And if you're talking about guys who were SEALS before joining the Coast Guard. Well, that proves my point.

OK, finished talking to David last night. I have no problem admitting when I made a mistake. He said that the Marine Corps allowed him to "suspend" his service to join the SEALS. So he did get an inter-service transfer to the Navy for his time in the SEALS. After a 4 year stint with the Navy as a seal, he got an honorable discharge, and then returned to the Marines, where he was still authorized to wear the trident. He said it's all in how the paperwork looks. TECHNICALLY he said he was still a Marine on suspended service, but yes, he was a member of the Navy during his SEAL time.

I was talking about AD Coast Guard members getting SEAL slots.
I was going to rebut a significant portion of your posy Pyramid...But it's not worth the time. You are going to hold to your assumptions and I'll hold to what I know and neither of us is in the program...so it's all just guessing.

The bonuses are huge or at least were a few years back. A SEAL CPO in my OCS class got 120K bonus to reenlist.

This one is easy. Send David's full name to Don Shipley and he'll tell you if he was ever a SEAL or not. They have a database with everyone who has earned the right to wear the Trident.

If I had to bet I would say no. The Services are not in a habit of allowing guys to just jump back and forth.

Suspended or not-There are Coasties who have Tridents-But the point of my post was that not everyone does things the "conventional" way, not to try and have a pissing contest about how many and what else ties into the program.

Look, I have been friends with David for over 20 years, and he is not one that would lie about his service. I am not about to insult him by sending his name in to anyone. If he tells me that is what happened, then that is what the hell happened. Bet all you want, I have known the man for years AND served with him.
