It's a fine paste. I thought it would be a little odd for anti-seize to be on the inside of the diff, and especially as much as there was.

I had a little of that also when I changed my diff oil. I think it is just shavings that built up over time. I think someone here said that the plug is magnetic, so it all just accumulate at the plug. Mine was about 1/8 of a teaspoon - the first time my diff oil was changed in 85,000 miles, so I figured it is not a big deal.

Could just be water. 90w can get grey and "pasty" if it's mixed with water for a while. Maybe you got some water in the housing before the diff breather mod?

But it's definitely worth looking at to make sure it's not metal shavings. However if you're pulling it apart to change gears then there's probably not much to worry about.

It's four bolts and two nuts.

After doing it once, I bet I can take it off in less than 2 minutes now.

So just that and then remove the signal lights, correct?

And what was the part that you ended up using zip ties instead?

Yeah, just remove the turn signal lights.

    Four 14mm bolts

    Two 10mm nuts

And I ended up using zip ties on the two little plastic arms that extend from the bottom of the valence and get secured to the frame. Toyota uses two piece of crap plastic screw fasteners for some reason. When trying to remove those they just spun. One was cracked... so I just rip the fackers out and used zip ties. It's much tighter and more secure now. You'll see when you get into it.

It's so super easy to remove and reinstall this thing.

    Here's what it looks like:

Thanks for the help, that's probably what it is. But I guess it won't matter if I can't find a solution to the next problem.

F'n drums are being a pain in the ass. I don't know what to do now. From what I read, you're just supposed to pound the cover loose with a mallet or something. If that doesn't work, there is 2 pre-threaded holes for bolts so you can push it off.

Problem is, on the driver's side, one hole was stripped and the other the bolt head broke off. On the other side, I was successful in removing the cover but it had to pull so hard it cracked the drum cover thingy.

What the hell do I do now??

I tried that. A LOT. I'm ready to just cut the other drum off and buy a new set. Looks like they're around $30 anyway

Probably not a bad choice considering their condition. That's what I would do.
