It's not bad at all. I've quit at least a dozen times.

I used Chantix the beginning of 2008, it worked great! Then my ships' schedule (Navy) went to hell in a handbasket, and I ran out and was too busy to get more, so I started again. I had smoked for almost 20 years, and was quit for four months with no problems. I will use it again when I transfer off my ship, just so I can take the Chantix as long as I need to. I had no side effects...

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
Everyone in my fam damily smoked except me. My Dad, Brother, Grandparents, Uncles... everyone. The ones that never quit eventually died of lung cancer or emphysema. The ones that did- Dad, Brother, Uncle had a hell of a time doing it. My Dad swears chewing gum helped him. He quit back when they didn't have helpers or nicorette. But he did gain a ton of weight, wound up having heart problems, now has to be on a special diet and lost 40 pounds. My Brother started when he was 15, stopped when he was 22. He would go NUTS for days on end. But he did it because his GF threatened to leave him unless he did. Ironic since she broke up with him and married someone else.

I tried cigerettes awhile back. Didn't do anything for me so I never really smoked. I like beer though but trying to moderate it since there's also a lot of alcaholics in the family: I won the aluminum can drive in elementary school because my Uncle gave me two 50 gallon drums full of crushed PBR cans.

I quit smoking also, but I really do miss it. That relaxing feeling you get when you're smoking is almost worth the health risks. I didn't really gain much weight when I quit, I just started exercising more and eating better. My willpower is very weak though, I could easily start smoking again.

I recently quit too. I'm having insomnia right now actually...as well as the past 3 nights.

I'd rather be up all night than smoke those nasty things though.

Congrats guys! I miss the hell out of it sometimes, but I don't really have the urge to do it (thanks Chantix)...

The side effects of the pill are starting to wear on me a bit... mainly the nausea... I can deal with the slight insomnia, but the nausea is a killer...

My doc gave me a partial script (like 6 or 8 weeks), so I would have to go back for a check-up (and another co-pay). My quit day was Nov. 4th. I quit on that day, and with 1 exception (drunk at the strip club) havent cheated.

The chantix helped, but the nausea (in the mornings) was really tough. After awhile, I seemed to sleep fine (other then the crazy dreams).

I never went back to the doc for my re-fill, but rather weined myself off the pill over a 4 day period. The first week was a killer, as the side-effects were worse for me after I stopped taking it then while I was on it!!!

Over 2 months, and no smoking!!! Stick with it, and watch yourself while drinking...!

Yeah, I agree, the side effects of getting off of the chantix is similar to the side effects of quitting smoking. It was very difficult for me to get off of the chantix.

If you guys wanna know the best way to quit smoking I'll tell you:

    1) Get 1 month's supply of Chantix

    2) Take chantix for one month, without smoking at all.

    3) Change from Chantix to Nicotine gum for 1 month.

    4) Change from nicotine gum to nicotine patch for 2 months, gradually stepping down the patch. I trim my patch with scissors until I get to a point where I'm weaning my self off nicotine at any pace you want.

At the end of all of this, you will have used the chantix to get off of the cigarettes in the beginning, then you move to the gum to get you that shot of nicotine when you quit the chantix, and the patch is what you use to wean yourself off of the nicotine.

Ultimately you can do whatever you need to to get on the patch, once you get on the patch it's not bad if you wean yourself off.

But going straight from not smoking to the patch is very difficult.

Going straight from not smoking to the gum is very difficult

Going straight from not smoking to Chantix is very doable.

Going straight from Chantix to patch is possible

Going straing from Chantix to gum is very easy

Going from gum to patch is very easy

Trimming patch to wean yourself off is very easy.

Follow my plan and you'll have good luck!

Good plan/ well laid-out. One thing I've been told by many is that its okay to "slip" here and there while on the pill, but GOD help you if you slip after you've stopped taking the chantix. From what I'm told, one slip opens up the receptors like as if you had never taken the pill:eek:

Although I quite smoking, I did substitute Single Malt Scotch for the nicotine and I can assure you it's way more expensive!
