I'm looking to put on a K & N filter on my 2000 3.4 liter. I'm debating between the replacement filter for around $50 or 57 series FIPK for around $200?? Does anybody have experience with these? Is the FIPK worth the extra $150? Or are there any other filters out there.....

If I was going to put a high flow filter in as a replacement I would use an AFE pro dry filter instead of the K&N, since the K&N uses oil to trap the dust and the oil isn't good for the MAF sensor.

Because people over oil the crap out of them. Oil it properly and you won't run into issues.

I'd still do a aFe drop in since you don't have to take the time to properly oil the filter. It's just quicker.

I agree with chris 100% !!!! I had the K&N drop in filter in my 99 3.4L and it did nothing but dirty up my MAF sensor. I then installed the AFE prodry filter and it to did nothing for preformance, and it alowed dirt into my intake. I now am running with the advice of chris 4x4 and this forum the stock toyota filter and did the deck plate mod. That gave me the best results. That is your best bet !!!

    +10 bajillion.

The stock intake is capable of flowing far more air than a normally-aspirated engine can use.
K&N, AFE, and other "performance" filters increase air flow at the cost of filtration efficiency.

Tell ya what... don't believe me? Send a couple of samples of your used oil to Blackstone for analysis.
Try out a K&N drop-in (you'll be able to find some sucker in the marketplace to buy it), and for the next 3 oil changes, send samples in.
Watch your silicon levels climb. By the 3rd oil change, Blackstone may even comment that the elevated silicon is cause for concern, and recommend checking your intake and airbox seals.

May as well just run no filter at all.

I've seen engines with less than 50k on them torn down for excessive oil consumption. Factory honing crosshatch is still apparent in the cylinder bores... but there is also severe vertical scoring, which is the cause of the oil consumption.
    Common trait? "Performance" air filters.

Throw that filter away and go "commando". ...

Then cut a big hole in the hood ... install a chrome skewp ... cover skewp opening with some 1" square rat wire to keep the big stuff out ... and you will have a "loud screamin machine" ... :D

PS ... IMO ... Deck plate mod is best ... :D

... ^^^ ... Joking aside ... :D ... IMO ... dry is better ... because of "possible over oiling issues and MAF".

K&N makes some super quality stuff too. I love their oil filters (with nut welded on top) ... and I think that they make the Toyota TRD oil filters too.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
I ran a K&N filter for 3 years no problems but now since switched to a AEM Brute Force intake with dry filter. Just easier to maintain.

I had a 2000 Taco that was just shy of 200,000 miles. It had a K&N for at least 150,000 of those miles. Never had a problem. My brothers 04 Taco,I think is close to 200,000 miles with a K&N in it. Almost all that with that filter. No problems. My 09 has one. One of the first things I did.

Yup... and I put over 220k on my '94 with a K&N drop in.
It was also burning over a quart in 3000 miles.
