Have a 2003 Tacoma 4X2 2.4L manual transmission & standard cab. Have been towing a 1600lb camper and only use up to 4th gear up to 60MPH and rarely use 5th while towing because of lack of power. This pickup is equipped with a class III hitch and firestone rear suspension air bags.

Getting ready to purchase a 3000lb boat rig and most of my trips will only be 5 miles to the lake.

Wanted to know if the 2003 2.7L with manual transmission 4X2 3.909 ratio ring & pinion gears or 2.7L 4X4 4.100 gears can replace the original 3.583 gears in my rear differential?

My goal will be making it easier for the Tacoma pulling the boat out of the water and being able to use all of the gears towing the camper.

Here is a previous post in the towing section:

Call east coast gear supply. They are the best I have dealt with.

That's great! Already been on their site. Will be talking to them tomorrow!! :)

Had a 87 Toyota pickup with 2.4L & 4 speed. It pulled the camper great, the speedometer was reading 10MPH too fast and did not have a tach. Believe the previous owner replaced the differential gears in that truck. Really liked how it pulled loads.

    Thanks!
