^^Yeah I agree with the good irons over the cheap optic. I had a Primary Arms on my last AR and I wish that I would have kept it and just sold the rifle. What about the Bushnell Tactical Elite?

Thinking about buying an AR, been wanting one for years and now passing through walmart I see they sell a couple different Sig M400's for around $900. I'm tempted to buy one and watched all the youtube vids but not sure if there is a better AR out there for the price. I really just want to buy a complete gun and go shoot. Any advice is welcome, thanks.

Rock river arms is great value for the money and has a strong reliability in reputation. They're not milspec but you don't need a milspec rifle for target shooting do you.

Any good 10 or 20 rnd mag suggestions? I've tried the magpul 20 rnd but wasn't impressed with the plastic feed tips or whatever you call them.

Surplus, I've had good luck with C-Prod.

Agree on Magpul's plastic feed lips. Magpul can certainly be hit and miss. They have some very nice products, and they have a lot of "tacticool" clunkers.
    Not a Magpul fanboi here.

I really like the CAA grip, but CAA's FDE is lighter than Magpul's FDE.

OK oh Gurus of the AR15, I'm looking to build what will be my first AR. My main intentions for this will be for groundhogs and target shooting.

Please take a look at my list of potential parts and let me know if: 1.) Are these good parts? 2.) I need anything else

    Riflegear Upper
    http://www.riflegear.com/p-1166-riflegear-16-midlength-mctar-low-profile-upper.aspx
Spikes Lower and lower parts kit
    Magpul stock w/ buffer
    http://www.riflegear.com/p-423-magpul-moe-stock-carbine-mil-spec-complete-assembly.aspx
    Magpul MBUS iron sights

I'll also add mags, a vert foregrip, bipod, and scope at this time as well

Thanks a lot guys, I've been extremely impressed looking through this thread at all the great rifles!

Any one running a AR type rifle in 7.62x51? I have been looking at them but have not really came to a conclusion to what I want to get.

Pass on the VFG... best to simply use the tube as intended. An angled grip is better anyhow, and most people that have a VFG end up only resting the heel of their hand on it... the thumb and fingers still wrap the barrel shroud.

I have a Grip-Pod on my AR22... hate it and will likely replace it with a regular bipod, or just dump it.
I have a Magpul AFG on my short barrel 5.56 and love it.

Totally different animal. There's basically two options for upper/lower compatibility (DPMS or Armalite), but that's the AR-10 platform, not the AR-15.

Give the guys at Riflegear a call (mid-morning during the week, their shop is busier than shit on the weekends and they won't have time to chat) and pick their brains for AR-10 options.

That is only your opinion, when firing from different concealment VFGs are starting to show their worth again. Million different ways to skin a cat. For the record I used to feel exactly as you do so I am not trying to bust your balls.

First time I've used the AR to down something other than a target. 1 shot though the heart at 30 yards

AR + 1st gen yukon NVRS made it almost too easy...
Compared to using a .38 and a flashlight, no wonder my dad likes hunting with it so much
