i rode solo from seattle to the socal/baja border back in 2006.. then followed tim morton, gabe williams, and some others with the Honda B team down to la paz.. i actually don't own the 950 anymore :( sold it not longer after i returned from that 5 week trip.. have a 500 exc now, that is a more suitable bike to run in baja, but would be trailering to the border.. :D good times always..

Thinking of getting either a Ninja 250 or Honda CBR250 soon. I've been saving money for a while and am almost to the point where I can begin really thinking about getting on a bike. I sat on the Honda at a local dealer and it's nice man I'm loving it for the EFI but leaning the way of more top end from the Ninja.

Perfect starter bike that is still plenty quick to keep for a long time.

    +1

250 is great for putting around town or campus... but a 125 scooter will do that.

OTOH... a Ninja 250 really is a rip in the canyons.
The 600s will pull away from you, but you'll catch them in the next turn, and at the bottom of the hill, you're going to be smelling 600 brakes while you just wave and head home.

I've thought about it but all the SV's around here are race ready and have been raced so I'm staying away from them used and can't buy one new. I was looking into a few older CBR600's and Ninja 600's. I just figured I'd start small and work up I'm coming from 15+ years of dirt but this will be the first street bike.

It's true that you'll get bored if you get a 250 (I'm already wantin to get a 600), you'll get better mileage from the 250. I was gettin 58 mpg before I put a 15T sprocket on the front. Haven't gone a full tank of gas through it since I did that, but it dropped it another 1000 rpm at cruisin speed.
