rear shock mounting question

    Magnaflow cat and cat-back exhaust, AFE Stage 2 cold-air intake system, 2.5" lift via Skyjacker leaf packs, Bilstein 5100s.
    A stupid question from one who should know better: I just mounted my Bilstein 5100 rear shocks on a set of new Skyjacker spring packs (love the ride). I mounted them with the rod end (the end covered with the polyurathane cover) up, so as to keep the nice poly cover up out of the crud. Then I noticed a couple of photos with them installed with the rod down. Does it make a difference? The only thing I could see is that when you look at mine, you have to read "Bilstein" upside down. There was nothing in the box or on the shock to indicate which end up or down.:confused:

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    On your truck, the shaft should be mounted down. It makes a difference, as the 5100's have different rebound and compression dampening rates. Flip them so the "Bilstien..." is read right side up.

    Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
    Do the blisteins have that cup over the rod? Seems like it would trap dirt and wear the sliding rod out. or washers.

    It can either be taken off, od replaced with a rubber boot which attaches at both ends. Its mostly there to protect from rocks and the like, as dirt is cleaned by the wipers on the oil seal.
