I see three indicator lights in the image.

    1. The "sqwuiggly icon" you mention is the "VSL/Trailer Sway Control/TRAC/Hill-Start Assist" indicator light. Check the dashboard switches (one of the shop employees could have been playing with them).

    2. The "Check Engine" light can be triggered by any number of issues - loose gas cap, failure of the VSL/TRAC/etc, and so on. This is the most important indicator and should be resolved promptly.

    3. The final light is the "Check Seatbelt" light. Everyone knows what that means.

Exactly... which is why I said "failing something obvious"

If the dealer left the MAF unplugged, no reason not to reconnect it, but the dealer should be notified.

Watch out everyone, the all knowing and great WHIP of Tacomaworld has graced us with his ever vast knowledge of knowitallism... succumb to his will for thine is of the incorrect thinking.

Which is why I said do what Rich said. ;)

Dont know why the tech would of been fucking with the MAF on an oil change. Then again I have seen worse.

And as much as a pain in the ass that Whipper can be, dude knows a lot about our trucks and is a good source of information when it comes to braaaap.

Both of my oil changes the tech pulled the MAF and cleaned it out. Not sure if this is standard or not, but it happens.

Same can not be said about his knowledge or understanding of diesel.

It is nice to clean it in the desert with all the dust. However, when I did services at Schumacher's I let them be. To damn tempermental and on Mercedes they come in at 300+ a piece. If it aint broke dont fix it.

I'm not that familiar with the 4.0, but doesn't the engine cover have to come off for an air filter replacement?

Even if the filter is not replaced, I have not ONCE taken a vehicle in for an oil change and not had some Gomer walk in and show me my perfectly clean air filter and either ask if I want a new one, or say "You can probably go another 3000 on this one"

LEAVE MY FUCKING AIR FILTER ALONE YOU IDIOT! I'M HERE FOR A FUCKING OIL CHANGE!!!!

LOL, arrogance will only get you but so far. It's cute though, keep up the solid advice chief.

Pretty sure you dont, not like merc's with the intake assembly built into the engine cover. And Rich that's 0.2 of an hour. In these times that 0.2 adds up.

That's your excuse followed by your rehtoric? Your going to go with I was too lazy to read what I was typing then flex on me behind a computer screen. Does your arrogance come from your insecurties? Might I suggest to not overread typed text in context towards your physeek but rather your humdrum ability to support your illconceived ideology. The cave upon which your trolliness resides beckons you.

WOW I didnt see this tread taking off like it did but cool.

So I took it in at 7am on Monday and told the service advisor what had happened. He said well I am not sure because the oil change and the tire rotation would not have caused those lights to come on. I told him ok but it was just here and you guys messed with it last and it needs to be fixed. He asked if the gas cap was tight and I told him yes it was. He went over and checked it for himself and it was. I got a call 2 hours later and he said that either the gas cap came loose and was someone tightened it up again or ...... there is a charcoal canister with two valves on it/in it and its on the gas vapor vent hose and one of the valves was working great when energized but one was a little noisey..... he said the tech told him it could have either not opened all the way or not closed all the way and caused the light to come on. So they reset the lights and it has NOT come back on so I guess it was some how fixed as they tested everything at the stealership.

I guess that check engine light will come on with the squiggly lights when the computer starts shutting down systems in your truck.....

That seems like a pretty sketch answer to me... also sounds like they didn't even run the code :/

    I'd disagree with that.

It probably had a fuel evap system code if they said gas cap or evap canister. And they likely would use a scan tool to energize and listen to the valves in that system. Pulling the battery cable will clear the codes, but a scan tool could be used as well.

I didn't hear any mention of OP getting charged for this. Sounds to me like they are doing him right.

Perhaps the traction control turns off if the check engine light is on?

2010 is likely still under warranty.....

Yes you are correct they energized and listened to the valves in the canister.... or something like that.

I also did NOT get charged for this but I am out of warranty with 39k on my truck and will only be covered by my extended warranty if I have to replace that canister.

That is what the advisor said that if the check engine light comes on that light comes on with it..... like the first thing the truck desides to turn off..... weird but whatta gonna do.

Emissions warranty is Federally mandated to either 70k or 80k.

Whether they cover it under your extended warranty or the emissions equipment warranty, that canister IS covered at 39k.

If it comes back, might try a 10 dollar gas cap before getting too crazy. They do go bad.
