ARP Head-Header Studs

    These are ARP exhaust studs from www.Dezod.com, in the second set of pics. They will replace the cheap factory ones, that are prone to rusting, and stripping out because of their soft nature.

    Important note***

    Would like to make a note about the install of these studs, on all '05+ 1GR's.

    Recently I found out something of interesting importance. The heads on the '03-'04 1GR, have holes for the studs which can be easily finger tightened. As they should be.

    However, on the '05+ heads, the holes are of a tighter tolerance. Upon inspection of studs from both year models next to each other, they were the same size. It seems that the heads of the '05+ were either heated before the studs were installed, or the studs were chilled, to make the fit extremely tight, once the head and the studs were of the same temperature.

    So, in order to properly install these into the '05+ heads, a tap with the dimensions of 8mm x 1.25 pitch, with some grease added into the grooves, is necessary to properly install these without fault or problem.

    Those are actually pictures of a friend's truck. Those gaskets are the ones that came with his JBA long tubes.

    I still have the factory steel gaskets.

    Mine are in the mail as well. But since I am still waiting on my engine to finish being built, it will be a while until I can install them.

    I still need to give the specs of the flywheel bolts to Paul at Dezod. That way he can get together a set for me, and any other 1GR owners.

    4 Wheel Parts, just as any other quality shop, can do that for you. As an alternative. Just don't go to some cheap exhaust shop. They will fubar it all up.

    ARP header studs installed. Another member did these, and I am just sharing, since I cannot install mine yet. Man are they sexy though.

    Some them down with some PB Blast. I hope the nuts come off without stripping. Had to help my friend take his header off one day. The factory never put any anti-seize on the studs. Ended up having to dremel the nut off because its edges stripped out. Fail.

    I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
    I try to tell everyone that wants to do headers to get these!! if you don't want to spent the money on these then you dont need to buy headers.
    worth there weight in diamonds.
    also get a racing or metal exhust gasket, not just oem one, more stress and they could fail, the metal ones will last.
    and never, never reuse the oem parts. for this...

    These would be really good for the 1st gen 2RZ guys that have a 35+ pound header and turbo hangin off those stock studs!

    These studs also work/are the same measurements as the Scion tC header studs.

    If those two engines' studs are the same as these for the tC/Tacoma, then yes.

    These suck I just tried to use them and they keep striping the allenhead portion on the end did anyone els have this problem???

    I will be returning these horrible product

    I have heard of a few other people having a similar issue. What they did was 1 of two things. 1: bottom the nut onto the ball of the stud, then use a socket to tighten them in. 2: use a thread chaser or tap, to clean the threads of the head up, then install them.

    Mine thread right in no problem at all. I can thread them in by finger alone. Which leads me to believe that something is slightly different on he newer model engines. Doesn't mean they are a horrible product though.

    Note*** If when tightening a nut or bolt and it feels unusually tight before it should, stop and ask for help. Otherwise the potential to strip things happens. ***

    Gadget at URD is one person who encountered the issue. He used solution #1 to overcome it. He likes his. :thumbsup:

    Thanks for the heads up!!

    Mine will be going in in about two weeks. Bottoming the nut to the stud then (gently) ratcheting them into the head is excellent advice.

    Well I shouldn't say they suck but when its half way in and strips and you cant get it in or out and then try to use the #1 method and the nut is stuck and you can not get it off your screwed after. I can make these work yes, But not the way they are intended and I have to get 4 more as 4 are ruined now.


    My stock studs were so tight I had to use a socket the whole way getting them out. The ARP studs were just as hard and this is what stripped them. My worst fear was stripping so I am very careful.
