Ok so I thought I'd rant cause I have to go out and buy a hitch and ball.

Does anyone else think its lame that toyota's tow "package" doesn't come with a hitch and ball? You'd think a $500 tow "package" would come with at least the hitch. Its should be called "incomplete tow package"

    Ok anyway some thoughts...

it'd be nice if they included a 2" ball and mount...but do any companies do this with their tow pkg?

I know the xterra used to come with one. A few years ago a friend showed me it came with his SUV.

Just seems like for $500 bucks they'd throw it in.

Never seen one do that. Besides they don't know what size ball you will need.

A draw bar would be nice though.

I have a jon boat with that's 1 7/8" ball and two trailers (one with 2" and the other with 2 5/16") so no, I don't think Toyota should provide all optional ball and hitches... I think you're paying for the receiver, light connector, aux cooler, bigger battery, and bigger alternator.

whipper I knew you'd show up and kill my rant.

I still think its a valid rant. and its not the same as coming with a trailer. Throw in the boat while you're at it.

    Odd thing to cry about.

How much drop, what size ball? Too many variables to make that worthwhile.

I dont think they should. Probably a liability issue because someone would use the wrong size ball and drop with the wrong trailer and the trailer would come off and some idiot would file a lawsuit because they were stupid. I'd rather get the right size ball and drop for the trailer I am towing because there isnt a one size fits all when it comes to hitches

Toyota, those cheap MFer's! They gave me the tow package, they ought to have included a trailer. WTF am I supposed to tow with my $500 tow package.

Sorry but this is kind of a silly rant. Everyone's trailering needs are different. People need different drop/rise and ball sizes. Some people, if you gave them the mount, wouldn't know what to do with it. Most likely, the reason they don't give you the ball mount is they don't want to be liable for it. It forces people to buy the proper equipment for the trailer they intend to tow.

the tow package already includes the upgraded battery, alternator, hitch and oil cooler. pretty fair deal for the cost. And at a time when our administration has imposed the MPG standards, manufacturers will spend millions of dollars to shave a couple lbs off a vehicle, i highly doubt they throw an extra 10-15lbs on there when it isnt needed. Hence the reason that most vehicles that have roof racks dont come with the cross bars.
