i like my shimano drive train a lot. i think i did like the feel of the XO when i tried it a few weeks ago. I definitely like shimano brakes a ton more! the XO brakes i tried were way soft compared to the XT brakes i had just ridden. I wasnt pushing the Slash with XO as hard as the Remedy with XT because i didnt like the brakes

Now with a story from my ride today. I was riding up a hill its probably a good 15 minute climb with a few like wooden stair type thing and got my front wheel over then tried to get my back wheel up and i just heard a loud BANG! i thought it was the chain snapping or something but it wasnt. im pretty sure i destroyed the freehub body and down to like one engagement point or so. i couldnt pedal backwards cause im guessing the prawl or whatever its called that was broken was jamming so i couldnt freewheel or coast. i dont really know technical terms haha.

So basically the mechanic is checking it out. i may just need a new freehub but im not sure. i might get a new wheel or upgrade and get a better wheel. it all depends on cost. im pissed though because i was 30 minutes into my ride :(

EDIT: oh and i definitely agree with you bfoster! the fade is exactly what sucked with the avid XO brakes. I havent taken my ex8 with elixer 5 brakes on a long descent yet but im kind of scared to see how they handle. im definitely gonna upgrade to XT brakes when i get the dough for them

SRAM's quality doesnt compare to Shimano but like said above if you work at a shop SRAM has some of the best customer service there is to offer, Shimano...not so much and lets not even start about Fox haha, i just got a set of crappy elixers replaced with brand new XO's rotors and all (which are for sale if anyone is interested) i also like the linear pull on the avid brakes but they dont cut it for DH they fade when used hard and the bleed doesnt do super well, id run formula but the lever pull is to weird for me same with the current saints, but come the new re-designed saints and i think i know my new brakes :D

True srams customer service is really well. The warranty girl named Rachel sounds like a phone sex operator and it's a joy to discuss how my master cylinder has been clogged and I need help flushing it out. And we usually end up getting new brakes 2-3 days later. Shimano takes 1-3 weeks and fox. Well. I was on hold for 1.5 hours and ordered a seal kit for a 36 talas. Well. That was about a month ago. We expect them in in about 2 more weeks

I'm moving to the Ft Collins CO area in a few weeks and Im going to upgrade my fisher Wahoo hardtail. Im thinking on either a Specialized FSR stumpjumper, or an Orbea Occam. The S would be way easier to find and service, but the Occam IMO is the best looking bike out there.

I also just found out the Occam will be available in a 29er. I haven't been on the 29er bandwagon much, but it seems to be gaining popularity.

I've been told to stay away from Orbea carbon bikes because they use lots of filler material in their Carbon fiber mixtures.

so i just talked to the shop and it looks like im going to be getting an entirely new wheel from trek. they said they were pretty sure that it was the freehub so they just filed with trek for a new wheel which i thought was pretty sweet. i should be getting my bike back by tuesday!

thats pretty sick...makes me kind of jealous haha. idk if trek would do that since im pretty sure they could just replace the freehub body over the entire wheel. but im not complaining that they are trying to get me a new wheel
