Porno Horno ha it was so overpacked we had to move to Mateo for a bit, that was a nice break, then it was back to the illegally occupied, condemned squad bays. . . aaaaaand I'm a civilian again haha

I have no doubt man, to be honest, I don't understand how people wash out, it's a mental thing I guess, but I was disappointed with how "hard" most things were. Not too impressed with the professionalism, or lack thereof, of the punks coming in now days either. . . worthless IMO

That was back in 2010 wasn't it? When it was over packed? I got out in December of 10' but I remember the battalions having to go there..I hated Horno! Stupid PX workers also..thinking they're the shiz!

OP..just sayin..not trying to bash but don't go in the Marines with the mindset of KILL KILL KILL (They try to do that to you in bootcamp anyhow). Shit's different now I guess..I did a year long deployment with the Regiment..yes I may be a P.O.G. as what the grunts call us but I did a lot of convoys as both the radio operator and the humvee driver and shit is scary man. You got IEDs to worry about as well as VBIEDs..never know when they will hit. Stayed in FOBs also in the town..

Just don't fall for their man love Thursdays lol

Eh, you're a product of your environment. MW3, Battlefield 3, etc, etc. Derogatory terms have always been a staple to help dehumanize the enemy, so you feel less guilt for killing them. The term Hajii is used as much as towel head, but it actually means that someone has taken a religious trek to Mecca.

It doesnt mean you're a dumb redneck for saying it, i think most of the seasoned Marines just want you to go in with a higher ethical stance on how to conduct yourself as a professional warrior.

One of the things civilians dont understand is that behind the ass-kicking, beer swilling, city destroying, fuck everything that moves exterior, your "average" (by no means all) Marine is an intelligent professional that wants to save lives and help the innocent more than he wants to fuck shit up.

Your average Marine pulls over and helps change a tire, helps carry someones groceries in, pushes someones car off the street, steps between a potential fight, and helps damsels in distress.

And then we have sex with them.

Crap, did i just disprove everything i just typed?:D

haha this whole post sums up Marines

Somehow the best guys I've ever worked with and the guy's who I've hated the most all at once, and yet not confusing at all.

Nasty bastards, yet with excess amounts of chivalry

thanks for the information and I have always heard them referred to that so I kinda assumed everyone did.. (what happens when you assume?) and talked to the recruiter today saw him out and about. He wants me to come in sometime within the next two weeks to do my PT and see where I'm at.

Not saying that you should, or shouldn't, but the Marines in my point of view are for those who absolutely want to be a Marine. The ones that go in already gung-ho about it tend to accept the suck better then those who 'just joined'. I would side with the Air Force or Navy. Those branches tend to have better qualities of living overall then the Marines and Army, though those should not be reasons to join. Don't join for a benefit. Join because you want to serve your country.

I've missed the vote/poll but as a former Marine coming from a military family, air force, air guard, navy and Marine Corps I say it depends on what type of person you are.

That being said and from my experiences I suggest the Air National Guard. Best kept secret in the military. Don't join just because you want to shoot some "towel head". Join as a sense of service to our nation. Now if you want to get dirty and play hard join the Corps or the Army. In the Corps even as a POG (people other than grunts) you may find yourself in a shitty situation and be called on to take the fight.

    Good luck.

There are plenty of us jarheads here to share our experiences. I think this is as fine a place as any to ask questions. I wouldn't suggest a recruiter until you have a lot of info already.

I have talked to actual Marines actually quite a few and I've been talking to a recruiter for months now. I asked on here because it seems like one out of 3 people on here are Military so why not hear their stories and experiences?

You're saying to speak to a probable lying salesman rather than ask the Marines with life experience here on this truck forum? haha

Two more pounds? Are you on the fence weight wise? Just make sure you can do a decent PFT before you sign the line. If you join the Corps with a lackluster PFT you will have your ass handed to you for the wonderful three months of boot camp.

For those interested in being a corpsman, look up TacoDoc here on TW. He is, and has been, a corpsman for a while. Very good ear to chew on and a class act to boot.

If you've always wanted to be a Marine, join the Marines. If you want to be in the military, get money for college, do some fun stuff and travel then pick the other three branches. You'll get to do all that and more in the Marines, but don't join the Marines unless you really want it.
