Despite NO indication in any of the manuals (Quick ref, Owner's, Maint.) and not being able to find anyone else on any forum stating anything except the auto trans on Tacoma's are a "closed" system, imagine my surprise when I opened the hood on my 2012, 2.7L, 4-speed auto and.....wait for it.....found a transmission dipstick.

No sh!t. Driver's side, by the firewall. Yellow handle w/ metal clip hold-down.

    Wtf,o?

LOL! I wonder how many customers they've had tow their trucks in because they did this. Probably made it to the big guys upstairs and figured they'd throw one on there for the mechanically declined.

I could look again, but I didn't see that indicated in any of the manuals, as I already stated in OP. Of course missing info from manuals shouldn't surprise, I reckon.

The Toyota owner's manuals are pretty useless for basic maintenance. Subaru manuals are much better.
