I'll be doing the color match BHLM soon on my 08 DC, but was wondering.....

Has anyone done the color match BHLM on the factory tail lights?

I can't quite figure out if the lens is red, or what's going on...... Does anyone know?

If I want to do the color match BHLM on the tail lights, will I have to buy clear after market tails?

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
You cannot bake the tails like you can the front lenses. They are a more brittle plastic. The only way to darken the tails is to paint them with something like niteshades paint.

The BHLM consists of the headlights which are 3 pieces. There is a plastic lens, a chrome backdrop, and the plastic headlight housing that holds it all together. For the BHLM you paint the chrome backdrop. As for the BHLM on tail lights, im confused, do you want to paint the backdrop of the tail light, or the lens? I have never heard it referred to that before, I think most people just call it smoking the tail lights.

What I wanted to do was paint the inner tail light (non-reflector parts) to match the color of the truck.

Hmm I have never heard of anybody doing that before, I am sure there is a way to do it though. I think it would look really good.

I want to color match the headlights, so I think doing a blackout on the tail lights would look odd. Call me anal, but IMO they should match.

Technically it is I guess, but when I was reading somewhere the law in Arizona says that the tail lights have to be visible from 400ft away, which how mine turned out, IMO they are as bright as stock. One time a cop tried to give me a ticket for it when I got back to my truck but then I told him what I knew about the law and I lite them up and then he agreed they were street safe. I guess it all just depends who it is confronting you about it.
