I work in detail at a toyota dealer, and as far as just routine service goes, they dont use the techs, they use the dumb fucks. Hate that this happened tho

yes, those are it.. but i also had 4, 20 degree TPMS sensors that are almost $80.00 a piece and and entire set of lugs plus, as well as wheel locks all on the same bill plus tax as well... but thats everything needed to properly do the upgrade witch came out to around 1600 after everything. and of course they are making a profit, u still have to pay for a certain percentage of markup even at a dealer w/ employee discount, toyota requires a certain % of markup on everything .. and since i had already gotten such a good deal on my truck at the time, i didnt really care.. i still got a decent price. also, i got these wheels where i bought my truck, and that was also where i worked, and they suck over there, that why i quit and when back to school, but the one where i got the free wheel is my local dealer, not the same place, the place i worked at was like 30 miles away from my local dealer.

OP, call the dealership and try and work with them. If the dealership wont work with you, then file small claims. Dont threaten it, just do it. Small claims, is faster, cheaper and the best way to get this resolved when they wont work with you. Its usually only a small filing fee, maybe $60, but check with your local court.

If you need to file small claims, get your ducks in a row now, take pictures of the damage, find your original reciept for the wheels you purchased, the date of the service at Toyota, who you talked to at the dealership etc, etc. And if you can get your tire shop to put something in writing, on their letter head, explaining what may have caused the damage (ie, Toyota techs using wrong lugs, etc) that would also help.

Chances are you wont need all this, because once the dealership is served with the lawsuit, they will probably call and try and work a deal. If not, then just go to court on your day and plead your case to the judge, you dont need a laywer for small claims court.

Oh and if the Toyota dealer does not show up on the court date, even better, you win! Judgement Plaintiff! :)

I would also mention that you were not told of the damage that was done to the wheels. It is hard to believe that much damage was inflected to the wheels without the "tech" knowing something went wrong. Also, the dealership put you in danger by letting you drive off with damaged wheels. It looks like there is damage to the wheels were the lug seats against the wheel. If that is the case it seems possible to throw a wheel at highway speeds.

You still got royally ripped off

I sold off my old Baja wheels for $300 on craigslist. Granted, not stealership prices but you still got raped. I wouldn't defend dealership markups either. I can order parts through a dealership across the country, have them shipped to my door and they'll be 40 - 50% cheaper than driving to my local stealership and picking them up at the parts counter. Same Toyota parts, purchased from Toyota dealerships. The place you purchased from certainly didn't do you any favors at all!

OP, this guy did have a good point in asking them to replace your wheels with a nice Toyota wheel (if you like any of those style wheels). You might have better luck than getting them to pay out of pocket for aftermarket parts.

Ive actually seen this a few times working in the wheel business since november. The bulges on the inside of the center bore and how bad the lug holes look say someone used an impact wrench to put your wheels back on. With the lugs so close to the center bore, I'ts really easy to warp the holes and throw them off because theres just not that much metal there. Because they're lug centric, that causes the shaking and scraping. They should have torqued them on regardless of the wheel or vehicle.. Stupid mistake on their part...

i just did the math, and apperently, going off of TRD sparks prices, they only got me for about $200... but it did pay off since they screwed up my rim.. and i paid like $220 a wheel plus everything else included.. so its w/e ... water under the bridge now  im not very concerned about what i paid at this time... my main concern was to help our OP fella out. but thank you.. id like to think that what i suggested was a good idea, thank you kindly sir :)

I will never take my truck to the dealer for my wheels again. A similar situation happened to me when I took my 2012 in for its first service with aftermarket rims and tires. The dealer has no clue how to work with wheels and will send you out of there with the truck shaking like hell. I told them to cancel my wheel/tire service package and to never touch my wheels again. I now take it to the dealer for the oil change and discount tire for rotation and balance.

yes, the first service is at 5K .. they normally do an oil change, and tire rotation as well as the multi-point inspection (unless the owner makes a specific request not to perform a tire rotation or any other recommended service or what have you). i dont think ill ever bring my truck to the dealer myself unless its a major, majorrr service, other wise ill do my own oil changes and rotations, and other small stuff.

Speak directly to the Dealership General Manager. Be very polite and explain what happened. Chances are if you aren't abrasive, he will make it right. Once you get what you want, let him know that his service manager was rude and an embarassment to the dealership.

from the looks of it you should have used a hubcentric wheel spacer, and you didn't. that's what the inside hub of the wheel is all banged up and rounded on the inside edge

I have a set of air tools and I still prefer using hand tools to take the wheels off and put them back on for this very reason.

Anyway, I'd really push the issue and get them to replace the wheels that were damaged. Someone I know who's BMW dealership messed up a spare set of BMW winter wheels (I know, regular wheels weren't good enough for her, nor were a set of steelies) went to the extreme of calling the police on site so that there was a record of the dealership's wrongdoing and damage to personal property, and the problem was corrected.

Its really sad that its to the point where you really need to take detailed pictures of things like the wheels, fenders, bumpers and door panels before dropping off a vehicle for something as simple as an oil change. Unfortunitely, your dealer probably will get to the point and say that the damage was pre-existing, and you have no proof to show that it wasn't. From what I read here and there, it sounds like some dealers give Mercedes style service, other's give GM quality service, and most fall somewhere inbetween.

We needs pics of the lug nuts that were used when the wheels were installed.

Who installed the wheels?? Where they installed by a shop or did the OP take them home install them himself after they were mounted and balanced?

It is clear that the lugnuts are the issue.

Dealer should have stopped right away and notified the customer of the situation of the wrong lugs being used and not have even let the truck out the door since it is unsafe.

    Multiple issues at hand here.
