ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343270802.676479.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1343270834.779455.jpg I picked up this 20 foot Jackson canoe this spring to do a refit, which is on the truck and just finished the paint job Sunday. I'm planning to head to the Allagash River in Northen Maine for a week where I use to guide trips when I was younger. The canoe has a side mount for a motor, I have an 8 hp Nissan . Hope to have her in by this Sunday. Oh does this canoe make my truck look small???

Now that's a canoe. How many people will it hold? or how much gear? Doesn't make the truck look small, makes it look short tho, lol. Maine is one of my wish list travel spots......have a good float & don't forget the pics to post back up here when you get back.

Anyone have a Touring kayak? I'm looking at a few models right now and just wanted some feedback. I'm trying to choose between the Perception Expression 15, Wilderness Tsunami 145 w/rudder, and Necky Looksha 17. My longest boat is a Dagger Element 11.2 and I like it. Just looking to get another kayak for my current fleet.

Went out for the first time Sat & Sunday - on two small lakes. Muddy Run & Octoraro Resevoirs. Each time, 3 hours/5 miles before we called it a day - due to 'feeling a little weak' in the shoulders. Yeah, its an upper body work out for sure. We're not used to it.....

It's amazing how flippy these things can be if you're not careful. We spent the two days trying to get a knack for getting in & out ( my husband flipped once).

Still have a lot to learn...but enjoying every minute of it. We'll probably stick with more flat water lakes until we get our confidence level before tackling the rivers/creeks in our area that have higher currents.

We'll probably take a kayak class at our local outfitter. They'll actually teach you how to upright a rolled kayak (while you're still INSIDE it). That kinda freaks me out...... lol I think I'd rather FALL out of it and swim!!

they can definitely be really tippy. It took me a while and many flips to figure out how I can move around and get in/out of the yak without tipping.

My wife went out to get a prescription filled this afternoon and came home with a kayak! Prodigy 100. She took it out this evening for a quick ride, I took a few pictures. She's been talking about getting one since she rented one on vacation in Maine a while back. I'll be casting for bass from it soon!

Haha! sounds like some of us. Go out for something and come back with something bigger, better, and generally, a hell of a lot more expensive!

Good luck with that. It's not going to happen in the cheap yaks most of us have. I have tried many times in my sisters pool and even tried with 2 people helping and couldn't do it. The boat fills with water before you even flip over making recovery impossible.

this.... You definitely have to have a skirt on it. The perception's cockpit opening is just way too big to be able to flip it back before too much water gets in. Hell, I am not even sure a skirt on a perception would even be beneficial.

I have one.....and it really isn't. I used it once in 10 years and the only time I have seen it be useful is taking my yak to the ocean and getting through the breaking waves. If I didn't have it I'm pretty sure I wouldn't of made it. Of course your not supposed to take a lake yak into 6' breakers, but someones gotta do it :D

They do teach you how to roll out of it......because they supply the kayaks & skirts for the classes.

But I agree...even with a spray skirt on my Emotion, there's no way it wouldn't fill up with water.

I would take a class just to learn the proper way to do it. I learned myself and I'm sure I picked up some bad habits over the years.

I usually jump out when I'm about to flip over so my stuff doesn't get soaked, but that's when someone is trying to flip me :D

Having a sponge and bilge pump is key to staying dry in the cheaper ones like most of us have. The whitewater guys can flip around, but they also can;t go 10hrsin a day without loosing all feeling in their legs :D

When you take a class (or scout out Youtube videos about yak paddling), you'll learn how to paddle using your torso for power instead of your arms/shoulders. Makes a world of difference.
