digging this bed cage. Is the sheet metal a good idea? or more of a pain for access?

Well I don't see it being a pain as you rarely grab things through your fender well :p

I see it keeping things "cleaner" if that is actually possible in the Dezert

caged, camburg long travel, 50t leafpack (soon to be installed) light rack over cab, 5pt harnesses etc
looks cool, but it could be blocking something as well not too sure. maybe he converted that to storage or something.

I was thinking more of fuel cell access lol. doesnt seem to be readily accessible but im sure those pieces can be made to pop off quickly. and X2 on cleanliness

Sheet metal or fine mesh has been my plan since day one on my cage to keep crap from flinging in or gear falling out and making what little cargo area i have worthless. I think its a good idea, never had anybody disagree but thats first time ive actually seen it done really.

Well if you route the hose properly I don't see it being an issue. Unless you're talking about fuel pump access?

is really just for the bling factor, you usually wont see alot of paneling like that on race trucks, just on prerunners. Because picture half way through a race you have a fuel system problem and have to spend 20 minutes pulling of panels ha

My point exactly! I figured as much. i remember out at the MORE 500 helping tightening a few AN fittings that had come loose form the tank. Digging the cage regardless but the metal does look kinda bad ass:D think ill go without the sheet metal

yeah most desert race trucks will not have the panels because you want quick access during a race. It looks clean, but not a necessity at all

This Yota bed cage has a plated front section that is pretty large for carrying stuff:
