Part of the problem is demographics. There are a lot more kids and teens who don't give a crap who are on bikes than who are hiking (I got this from The Big Book of Stats I Pulled from my Butt). Then add in the people who aren't avid bikers. For most of us, we know the difference between avid bikers vs people on bikes (usually bike specific clothing vs might not even have a helmet). If you eliminate those groups, I believe you'll find the avids are more courteous than the hikers and equines (though it seems to becoming less so). But the problem is the other two groups only see the wheels, they don't see the rider, and it reflects badly on all of us. So, be nice, be courteous. At the very least, maybe we'll get a "I guess not all cyclists are assholes." (I can't watch the video on my tablet, but the one caveat is that once they start a confrontation, all bets are off)

this kind of thing happened today. i wasnt riding i was walking on a multi use path that was singletrack. most of the riders were cool enough to be like "on your left" while some didnt even say anything and i guess they "ran" a guy off the track riding his cruiser towards me and he was pissed. it gets annoying hearing stuff like that. some riders just give mountain bikers a bad name while others try hard to give it a good name. i do agree though it does need to go both ways. everyone needs to be courteous of each user whether it is mountain bike, hiking, horseback riding whatever, that also does bother me although i rarely encounter

i feel you too with bikers being less talkative i guess when they see eachother on the trail. like i try and be like hey hows it going or something whenever i pass someone or they pass me. although sometime on climbs i might not say anything if im tired haha. idk i feel like as a group everyone needs to stick together!

I always try to acknowledge people when I'm climbing, but that's because they're usually saying, "Hey, are you okay?"

By the way, for thos who don't know, uphill rider has the right of way.

Nice! My parents have a time share at Massanutten. I took my hardtail down the mountain, I'm dying to get back down there with the Stumpy. One of the nicest trails I ever rode was on that mountain. (noticed you're in Virginia)

We were supposed to be there in July, but with my new business, put it off for a year. There's an IMBA built trail near the top that was the most amazing trail I'd ever rode...I've never been on flow like that. I hit the crest of one hill, and if wasn't for the fact that my tires became silent, I wouldn't have known I caught air. It was so smooth when I landed, that even on my hardtail I couldn't feel it.

Hell, I'm going to drop 40lbs just so I can get the full rush next year!

Hey guys I think Im going to buy my first MTB tomorrow. Looking at this bike and it looks like a smoking deal. He doesnt tell what size is it but I am crossing all my fingers and toes its a large. If it is and no one has picked it up ITS MINE. What do you guys think?

"Here's a Specialized Pitch full sus bike. The forks are upgraded to top of the line Rock Shocks Revelation fork, shock and fork pump included. Crank Brothers Joplin 4 adjust-on-the-go seat post, Crank Brothers 50/50 flat pedals. Bike was ridden a dozen of times maybe, in great shape. Black on black matte graphics. This is a 2011 model. Spent $2500, asking $1300"

Seems like a pretty good deal. The bike's MSRP was $1900 or around there. Some of them did come with a Revelation and I'm not sure if that was a stock part or not. Might want to look around for the stock configurations. The other stuff cost maybe $3-400.

If it's in as good a condition as he says; could be worth it if it fits you.

Those joplins are supposed to be pretty bad, and i'm personally not a fan of the 50/50 pedals. That frame looks like a large at least, though. I'd say it would be a good deal for $1000-$1300, depending on how much use it's seen. Good luck on your first bike purchase!

Yup he says it's a large. Anything specific to look for when I looking at it and test riding it?

check out the frame for damage, check the suspension linkage, make sure the shock and fork are running smoothly, see if wheels are true, check the brakes, shift through all the gears to make sure thats not damaged, make sure the wheel bearings are good to go by making sure the wheels dont move side to side, maybe check that the rebound dampening controls work on both the fork and shock, more rebound dampening would be slower return i believe

i dont think much would be wrong with a 2011 depending on how hard it was ridden. i think a dozen times out in california could be a pretty rough though haha but it doesnt look like its in bad shape.
