This is what I was going to add...I think when buying and choosing between SR5 and TRD, it is important to consider not only the traction/suspension differences (which may be all that matter to some), but also the other interior differences as well. True, just as with the TRD "performance tweaks", most of the other features you could potentially add on your self later...but some don't want to have to do that.

It's actually a shame that you have to buy a "performance" package to get some of the nicer "luxury" and "aesthetic" features ... but if you're in the market to buy and comparing packages, those are things to consider.

How do I put this as respectfully as possible?...

Um, if the hood scoop on a Tacoma pickup is reducing your vision and ability to drive safely, maybe you should be sitting on a phone book... :D

Or not driving at all. :notsure:

    No one is flaming you.

However, when you make ludicrous statements such as you did concerning the Tacoma hood scoop and your ability (or, lack thereof) to operate the truck safely...

others are going to have fun with it. Don't get your panties in a wad over it. And I'd suggest you not post that you "usually look down at people"...it's not going to win you a lot of friends. (although I hope your statement was tongue in cheek...but not sure)

That much difference between the OR and the Sport?
I've only driven/driven in the OR DC. Coming from a Jeep Wrangler, I thought the OR rode and handled beautifully.

I had the same dillema. I ended up with a 2012 SR5. I've since installed an OEM skid plate (ebay $180 delivered), and have ordered leather seat covers and carbon fiber seat warmers. I'm coming off a Lexus RX350 so the ride difference is significant. As others have said the SR5 will do everything I need, rides easier, lower cost, and upgradable! Best of all worlds.

Sweet roof rack and bed extender!
What about the seats, alloys, backup cam, bluetooth, transmission oil cooler, power inverter, billstein shocks, downhill assist, better interior color and fabric, compass and temp display? Maybe you can get sure lockers for the price difference, but you still don't have any of the other stuff. Once you add lockers to an SR5 you are paying a very marginal fee, if not less, for everything else. Plus better resale value and a couple really nice stickers.

Well, I went with the TRD OR. The price difference was tolerable, and I figured I might have a little more peace of mind with the traction stuff and better wheels/tires (hopefully that holds true when there's deep snow, which is when I want to be in my truck. I'll have enough weight to make up for the lighter alloys).

The truth is that I'm probably not going to do much if any modding so what they do at the factory is probably good enough for me (possibly more than I need, but better to have it and not need it than the other way around I guess). I really don't care about the stickers... but most Tacoma's I see around here are TRD so I assume it will help at resale time.

    By the way, it's pretty.

Thanks again for all your input -- it was helpful.

Congrats! You will love it. Be confident in the snow, and remember that the way you drive in the snow and on trails is just as important as the extra traction aids.

Sounds like you thought it through and made a sound decision.

I can speak from direct experience having owned a 2010 SR5 and a 2012 TRD Sport...

The TRD trucks are more enjoyable to own (isn't any loaded vehicle?) and simply more truck for not much cost.

And the TRD bedside stickers I personally could live without, considering removal...but probably be wise of me to leave them come resale time.

Congrats on your purchase ... you will like the TRD ... but who really cares what model it is ... as long as it is a Toyota ... :D

    Sure

I test drove both the 2012 OR & the 2012 Sport

The OR seemed to have a looser and rougher ride. The Sport felt firmer, more planted. Much of this could be the difference between the BFG at's and the Bridgestones.

Also the Sport has the 4leaf rear. Not sure if there are other suspension tuning differences

Both are great trucks, I choose the Sport because I don't off road and I liked the look and feel of the truck.
