Do aftermarket stereos and steering wheel controls?

Do any aftermarket stereos work with the steering wheel controls for a 2006 Tacoma double cab?

I took the 6-disc changer out of my 2006 double cab last night. Pretty easy with all the helpful pictures around(thanks). When I was matching up the wires, there were several smaller diameter wires that did not have a match on my new Sony I was going to put in. I assumed some might be for the steering wheel controls. I decided to wait before installing the Sony.

um run a search for the wire colors. They should allow you to match up the factory wires with the correct wire colors provided with the aftermarket gear

 

You'll definitely need to look at your manufacturers page. I doubt your deck will have the wires to just plug and play. Chances are you'll have a second plug somewhere on the back of your deck, thats where the adapter will plug into. I'm looking into finding one for mine as well.

I may try and make my own. The steering wheel controls are a VERY simple circuit, I just need to figure out an interface with my deck.

 

There should be some type of adapter to use them. I'd call up Crutchfield and talk to one of their car audio Guru's about it. If there's one, i think they'd know about it.

 

It is possible. I had to buy an adapter from my local audio store. I have no idea what the name was but I do know that the install was more complicated than just plug and play. It was pretty expensive for what would seem to be a simple command. Also, the controls have a more delayed response now, but they work great.

 

Its a PAC CANbus something... I've heard of it,just don't have enough inclination to look it up right now.

Pioneer and Sony both make head units that are compatible with steering wheel controls in the 05+ Tacos, but you'll need to purchase a PAC control modual.

I did this in my 08 DC and it works fine with my Pioneer head unit.

 

Eclipse AVN6620 is 100% plug and play. Steering wheel and all factory wiring harnesses plug right into the back of the head unit. See my picture gallery for some detailed pictures.

 

I just put in a pioneer dvd in the dash and was wondering where you put the white interface wire from the PAC unit.

 

It's been almost 1 year since I put mine in, so I'm not really sure. If you're using the PAC box, I think that wire gets spliced into one of the wires in the wiring harness along with the resistor, but I can't remember what the wire color is. The instructions tell you what color the wire should be.

My "SwiJack" was about $50 give or take can't remember the adapters are specific by head unit manufacturer.

staring at directions and searching forums took me about 1.5 hours.
Putting it back in the box and in the living room took 30 seconds.
I wanted a quick victory for my deck ( jvc kdavx44 ) install.. I want more time to
research the thing. Plus, my combo of truck and head unit requires some soldering the provided additional resistors..
I'm Not afraid of that, but have to go buy an iron.. the steering wheel controls are low priority but high desireability.

I'll try and provide a few intelligent shots when i'm done.

 

Installing the PAC unit is not hard, but it is confusing. The unit has a spiderweb of wires, but if I remember correctly, you only use 2 of them. The others are just bundled up and tucked away. The chart that comes with the unit will indicate what color wires you need to use with your specific application, which resistor to use, and what to connect them too.
