    Truth!

The dealership I used to work for sold a lot of Fidelity. I've never fought with an extended warranty company so much over trivial BS. You seriously have to read every inch of the fine print on your contract or you will become extremely angry the 1st time you try and make a claim. They have so many exclusions and clauses.

FI- intake manifolds being covered but the gaskets aren't unless you selected seals and gasket coverage.

Fidelity "rewards" the dealer and finance people extremely well so they don't give a damn they're selling you a POS contract or haven't fully explained all of your options within that contract.

Go with the Toyota one if you can or go without if you can't.

. . . I know SET and their system . . . never worked for them ... but I did know the players.

Thats is why I would only get an "OEM Toyota Factory Platinum Warranty".

I'm pretty sure he means the dealer is financing the cost of repairs not the cost of the warranty, read back a few post's he clearly stated the dealer agreed to fix the issue seeing as a second party( another toyota dealership) was able to determine the issue was pre existing to his purchase.

I'd cancel the Fidelity policy if that's still possible and go through one of the several guys mentioned on here for extended warranties. I went through Toyota of Greenfield, ME after canceling the one I bought from the dealership down here. It's the original factory extended warranty. All Southeast Toyota dealers use Fidelity/JMA. I'm not sure how it works once you are past the 3/36K, but I literally saved 50% and got a better warranty.

Yeah well hate to burst your bubble but the toyota warranty sucks a fat one as well. I have one and it is pain to get anything covered even if it is obvious. I gave up on it. I do not have time to deal with the dicks at toyota. Tried two dealers and get the same run around and need to have a rep see it or find some other excuse.

Has anyone suggested the dealership is just trying to pull a fast one? Was anything wrong with your truck beforehand? If not, tell them to pound sand. I'll bet anything they're just trying to screw you out of 1500 bucks. Fucking thieves is all they are.

You are talking about the rust coming from between the "ring" and the weld, no? If so,that is not a crack. The ring is only a slinger, and is only press fit onto the stub shaft. Water can indeed get in that space, and cause the rust streaking out, but with no ill effects. The stub is welded to the driveshaft tube, and is one solid piece that extends through the carrier bearing and the flange on the other side of it. It is splined for the flange, and the tip is threaded for the flange nut. So, basically, your photo doesn't show any fault or failure at all. Which leads me the believe there is something else amiss if you have a vibration.

    Interesting

Toyota thought it was enough of a fault to replace it under warranty

Seems like they weren't really sure what they were looking at, so decided to replace it. If its alread been approved by the rep or corporate based on photos, then your dealer will get paid. If not, most likely the claim will be denied and the dealer will be on the hook for the bill. Either way, you get a new driveshaft at no charge.

The tech did mention to me some of what you stated earlier , and he's been a Toyota tech for 25 years

Not doubting you at all , just saying he seemed to know what he was looking at and thought that whatever he was looking at was incorrect

My picture might not tell the whole story

    Bullshit.

You are legally protected and they can not flat out void your warranty simply because of mods.

They must prove that the mods caused the failure.

That is kinda rare from what I have seen in the past.

Just curious ... what was the warranty issue and what reason did Toyota Corp. use to turn you down ??

Off roading damage and lack of proof of service and certain mods are the things that they normally try to use against a claim.

FWIW ... OEM Toyota Corporate Warranties ... are much more liberal granting claims than most other extended warranties.

Interesting that another dealer is saying to just replace driveshaft and asking insane price for it. When a u-joints started squeeling a few monthds ago on my 05 taco, I asked a dealer in GA how much they'd charge for u-joints. They said nothing was servicable on the shaft and had to replace the whole thing.

I think I paid around $320 total to find the parts myself and have a local shop install. 3 u-joints from O'Reily, carrier from a different toyota dealer, the local mechanic to do the work for me once I realized that one of the u-joints was so seized up that even my bench vice couldn't press it out.

My 05 taco is far better than the POS 04 chevy colorado I had but I still think maybe I won't get another toyota. Every time I've checked the work done by a dealer service dept, I found something wrong. Stuff like not removing an old gasket before putting on the new one, wrong torques, missing nuts/bolts, forgetting to put parts back on, and of course the "no issue found" and "unable to replicate issue" multiple times.
