Question about UCA and 5100 coilovers???

    Hello,
    I am proud to say this is my first post to this great reference site. I am excited I found a great forum for Tacoma enthusiasts. Anyhow, I have a 09 TRD Sport with 17" wheels I am planning on ordering the $1050 Bilstein CO kit and have read some mixed reviews on whether I need UCA or the factory ones will do. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

    Icon Coil-overs, TC UCA, with Bilstein 5150 and Icon 3 leaf pack. 17" Moto Metal 951 4.5" Backspacing wrapped in 285/70/17 BFG AT's. Demello front bumper and Avid offroad sliders.
    You may have problems with alignment after the install depending on how wide of tires and wheel backspacing you end up going with.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Factory UCA's will "Work" but you wont be able to get the alignment in Spec. TC, Camburg, or Icon have more caster built into them to correct fot the loss of caster. AND, they use a Uniball as opposed to a Ball joint. A Uniball is MUCH stronger, and offers a wider range of motion compared to a ball joint.

    The mixed reviews are from mixed results. Do you 100% need them....NO....but there is a possibility you will have trouble with alignment and wandering while driving. If you have those problems- then you might need to get to UCAs.

    It's ind of your choice- but if you wait- You'll have to take a large part of the suspension apart again (or pay to have it done).

    I am not sure the backspacing I will go with, but I was planning on going with 285/75 or roughly a 33/10.50. Do yo think the 5100 CO are worth the price even though it uses a balljoint versus the uniball Camburg, or Icon, uses. Price is a concern but if for a couple hundred more I can get a better lift I would go with it. Ideas if there is something better? What UCA would you recmmend? Thanks for the quick responses :)

    I recomend Total Chaos UCA's. Not sure if I understand the rest of your question, though.

    Oh, I was basically asking if the Bilstein CO are the way to go or is there a better lift for not much more money? Thanks for your response

    Bilstiens are good, as they dont have to be re built, and have a lifetime warrenty. Fox, King, Leepers, Icon, Sway-A-Way (Camburg) are some good choices (in that order).
