if you hold the steering wheel at full lock, the noise you hear is the power steering pump, you should never have your steering held all the way to full lock, it will kill your P/S steering quick like.

OK,just spent some time laying on the ground while one of my co-workers drove the truck back and forth......I think you were right Bluez,it appears to be the dust cover or backing plate on the drivers front wheel.Deffinitely a "tinny" sound. Were you able to make it go away?.....As I rarely am at that full lock posistion I can certainly live with it.It would just be a relief to know for sure.

I haven't had a chance to look at mine again but what are you going to do about the dust guard? Bend it ... cut it.... ?

rod,if you climb under your truck and look at your wheels from the back side, you will see a circular thin metal plate that follows the lines of your brake disc.If you tap it with your fingernail it makes a very tinny rattle that sounds alot like the noise I'm hearing.I'm leaning towards it being the rattle I'm hearing when I'm turned left to the lock and going very slowly.

I experience similar noise. Did you go to a shop before you have this? Mine happened after coming out from alignment shop. Check you skid plate for bents. Mine was bent outwards and rubbed the front right tire everytime I turned left at full lock. I straightened it out and no more grinding and rumbling. I think some technicians get lazy to remove the skid plate when adjusting the caster/camber.

Grab a hold of it and pull it out with your hands. You gotta just bend it out (but not to much) and play with it. I had the same problem and fixed it in like 5 minutes.

I have the identical problem. I can tell you all that it's not steering stops, dust covers or mud flaps. I think the front end isn't disengaging and the front knuckles are binding. A friend of mine that knows 4x4's says I should be able to climb underneath and spin the front shafts by hand when in 2 wheel drive. If not I will hear the same bind as I would expect with a tight turn in 4 wheel drive.

I got underneath mine and can't spin them. Can you guys check yours?

Bump... any causes found for the grinding/groaning sound when turning at low speeds?

Not really a solution or cause ... but I have put 5K more miles on my Taco since the problem started and it actually went away.... Haven't done anything to it...

See, mine did the opposite... put 5k miles on it and still there.
