Im planning on doing this mod, but I have plastic headlight protectors on my lights...Should I take these off before I go shoving them into the oven? They are a little dinged up anyways, so replacing the covers wouldn't be too bad of an idea.

It'd be best to pull them. 200* ain't that hot, but you wouldn't wanna take any chances for warp.

I know these are eBay lights but I did black them out, They turned out awesome, way better than the original chrome housing.

350 deg at 8 mins made my 2012 come open easily. Just remember to turn off the oven when the headlight is in there. And dont try and take out the light leveling bolts like i did lol. Now I have to re-adjust my lights...

It was real easy to do just make sure to re seal them super good. I will be taking mine apart again here after a while to put proper CCFL rings in instead of the two stupid LEDs. I cant wait to make my retros!

I did my headlights a couple of days ago. My first mod on my truck. I think it came out nice. it was pretty easy as well, just follow steps on the thread and its all good. The only problem I had was that my lenses were oxidized. So, after doing the mod it made the oxidation look much worse.
With a tip from another member I used Plast-X. With some elbow grease and Plast-x my lenses and my mod looks awesome.

Pics for anyone who cares. Pics were from before I de-oxidized my lenses.

Click my sig pic for build thread

I don't know if this has been covered (didn't read the whole thread), but when we did this mod on civics back in the early 00s we would run a bead of RVT silicon sealant in the seam of the housing. Never had a problem with condensation. I don't think I would use electrical tap as the OP suggests

Go to your local automotive store and get some of their windshield sealant.

Just talk to them, the stuff I bought wasn't on the shelf so you might have to ask. Mine was in a tube that required a caulk gun but you probably don't need that much.
