All you have to do is google va court case and try to pay online. No recording, just your charge, then "mark for payment" then "proceed" on the bottom. See your fee, when i paid mine from south hampton last night I didnt see any court costs :)

You can do this but it might take awhile for the ticket to be posted. It took over a month for Burry's ticket to show up on that site.

Yeah.. I like to think of myself as a part timer.. Here are a few of my excuses-- 1. When I drink... 2. When I am around other folks who smoke.. Those are my top two. I quit full time over 2 1/2 years ago. Went obviously the whole time I was prego w/ Baby B-- I know I can do with out.. I am just a weak soul.
Stick with it. I remember literally loosing my mind when I quit.. Barry was alot of help to since he's one of those reformed ex-smokers who would say it gets easier.

I feel for ANYONE who lives or works closely to someone who is quitting smoking. That is extremely difficult and kudos to any and everyone who has kicked it! Watched my mom smoke for just about my whole childhood. When i got back from my first deployment and she asked me what i wanted for Christmas, i was like, for you to quit smoking. I had been hard on her forever about it, but she actually did it, cold turkey. She has been without for 12 years now. Keep it up Joe Joe, only you will reap the benefits of being smoke free in the end! You owe it to yourself!!!!

Yeah that's exactly what I figured out after listening to the recording. They called it a $66 processing fee. Sounds like bull shit to me though. Nothing takes $66 to process. If they want to charge me $66 extra for a ticket they should just call it a fine. Don't try to church it up and say its for processing.

I can pay it online apparently but I want to go to court and see if I can get it knocked down at least. The dickhead said I was going 60 in a 45 when it was really a 55. Maybe he won't show up, especially since I have to change the court date because of military orders.

You ever seen the commercial about quitting? It was a woman mixing up a drink at work at her desk then going outside and smoking. It said "You don't drink everytime you smoke, so why do you smoke everytime you drink."

I don't smoke but I can imagine how hard it would be to quit. Keep at it!

It changes to 45 when you exit York Co. Big yellow sign, then a couple of other 45 mph signs. I appreciate your opinion of my service. Sorry I was out of prepay sheets, could have saved you the recording.

    See you on the 6th.

Its a state requirement. The punitive fine goes towards the city's budget for expenditures such as the Judges and Clerks salaries. The processing fee goes to the state and pays for a variety of programs such as victim reimbursement program, and the overtime that Officers and Troopers receive from coming to court on their day off or outside of their shift hours. Its a flat fee. The state makes a killing on my traffic dates, but then takes a beating on all the other cases I go to court for.

There are no 55 mph zones in the City of Newport News. 25, 30, 35, 45 and 60. Although I appreciate your service in the Coast Guard on a personal level, on an equally personal level I have lost two family members in a vehicle crash due to someone else not paying attention. If you really think it was a 55 mile per hour zone, then you were not paying attention to your driving. That would constitute reckless driving here which is a criminal infraction here in Virginia. Just an FYI.

Also, in reference to your orders. You are obligated to notify the court prior to your court date of your unavailability and when you would be available to argue your case. Failure to do so could result in your being found guilty in your absence and they charge an extra fee for that. Afterwards you would have 10 days to note an appeal and I do not know what the process is for that. If an appeal has not been noted and the fine is not paid within 30 days of trial, Virginia DMV suspends your privilege to operate any motor vehicle within the Commonwealth regardless of which state issued the license. Operating on a suspended license can effect your clearance as its a class one misdemeanor and carries the possibility of no more than 12 months in jail and a fine of no more than $2,500; either or both, and a mandatory minimum of either 30 or 90 days of additional suspension period after you become eligible to regain your license.

Finally, the dickhead will be in court. If I fail to appear, I am subject to termination on my department.

He should have just asked for things he can do to sway a judge to reduce or dismiss a ticket. There are a number of such things.

I wonder if there is anyone here that would know about them..... :spy:

    As a GENERAL WARNING:

I patrol that area. I regularly enforce speeding on Jefferson Ave by the city park and on Ft Eustis Blvd within the city.

I do not speak for other officers, but I START enforcement at 12 over and stop giving warnings at 15 over. Occasionally I will write for simple speeding even when the speed is reckless by code and its under 23 over. More than 24 over is a reckless driving ticket, more than 40 over is a trip to jail.

And I feel pretty reasonable about that as I occasionally drive faster than the posted limit myself. But I keep it under 10 over unless its an extreme circumstance.
