    Hey guys!

I am in the market for a car alarm for my Taco. I am going to be moving into an area where I will not have a garage and keep supplies in the bed of my truck. I know its easy to take things out but want to get a good alarm that will go off when the tailgate is opened or even if somebody touches the windows. Anyone know where I can start with this adventure? I know things can still be taken with an alarm but it gives me a little more peace of mind knowing that if they open the tailgate its going to go off.

    Thanks guys!!
    Paul

Also, if you know of a good install shop in socal that would be great as well.

On my previous car I had a DEI Viper alarm with a proximity sensor, it was like a "bubble" you could adjust so if someone stuck their arm inside a rolled down window it would go off etc... However when it rained or leaves etc blew past the car it would chirp all night and piss off the neighbors, so it takes some fine tuning to adjust the sensitivity.

I think the proximity sensor is an add on feature so you could pretty much just get the base model alarm and add it. If you want remote start etc. the cost goes up. I had Circuit City install it back in the day, I think Best Buy does installs too...

I have a viper alarm/remote start. It's fantastic. Viper is definitely the way to go.

Anyone know of a good shop in San Diego area to install and sell me an alarm? I also would probably install the hood sensor on my tailgate instead. So if the tailgate is opened the alarm goes off :)

Not sure where your located, there is great shop on Valley View and Imperial Highway in La Mirada. I had a Auto Page alarm done a few months back. They have done a number of window tints on my cars as well as stereo/amp and alarm installs for my sons. They have been located in the same shop for at least 15 years. If you want I will dig out the receipt and give you the number, pm me.

I've had Vipers on my last 4 vehicles, including my taco. I love them. They have prevented a loss twice while sitting in my driveway in the middle of the night.

Clifford alarm systems are pretty good, they release a warning beep when something comes within 2ft of it, and goes off when someone touches it (but shuts off in like 5 seconds if nothing was damaged). It's pretty good, my mom has it on her Tahoe, and my dad on his work truck..not that expensive either...

I have an Ungo alarm/remote start. It's a clarion brand. I like it. I would suggest finding an alarm that has a 1 mile radius.

Is there an aftermarket alarm that can learn my taco remote or one that can replace my taco remote and unlock the doors?
I don't want to carry two remotes.
Maybe thats the standard right now, but living on an Island with an old stock truck I haven't had a need for an alarm till I got my new truck which will have some premium sound equipment in it.

Wait so the new alarm won't replace my current keyless switch? I would have to disarm the alarm with the new one and unlock with the old one??

Thats what I want to know. I guess I'll just have to research these systems on some websites.
But if someone wanted to just let me know how there remotes worked I would not complain.

Ok so I found a good shop that can install the alarm. They quoted me $300 for the Clifford Matrix 1x and $400 for the Clifford Matrix 12.5x installed.

I also have the option of going with a Viper 330V that utilizes my stock remote installed for $250.

What do you guys think I should do? Go with the Clifford 12.5x mackdaddy or keep a clean keychain and use my stock remote.

I had this alarm on my old 76 blazer. I got it so that when i removed the top, it would go off if anybody entered the truck without opening doors
