Is there one that the public can see?

I just called the dealer to set up an appointment to get my airbag light problem fixed. (It's been on for a while)

They took my VIN # and said that my '05 Sport was not covered under the recall.

While I do realize there is a chance that my light may be on due to an unrelated problem (insert totally unbelieving distrustful face here) is there some site that will confirm their claim that my truck is not included in the recall?

In the mean time, I'm going to call another dealer,,,,,

If your truck has steering wheel controls for volume etc. it should not be included in the campaign.

What might cause the airbag light to stay on if a vehicle isn't subject to this recall?

It could be anything from a broken wire to bad squib. Just because the light is on doesn't mean it's the clock spring either.

    Awesome site! Thanks.

No recall, but I did see a service record where the original owner had a issue with the airbag light a few years ago. Left front sensor replaced then.

Both dealers seem to be correct at this time.

(I guess that is the reason I haven't got a recall notice yet)

Thanks again for the hookup!! (I put my Camry on there too)

From what I have found out, I would say that you are correct and I am hoping it is not the clock spring. (Especially since it has happened and fixed before)

So it will throw a code that will tell the tech exactly where the problem is? Looked like quite an extensive code list.

    Thanks.

    Mine has, and it isn't.

    You are correct.

    Thanks

Ben, this sort of thing comes up again and again and again, and let's face it, there are some serious safety concerns with some (like the 1st gen LBJ recall).

This link should be stickied somewhere. But where?

Take this as a site suggestion, and make a non-gen-specific forum under Tacoma Garage for Recalls and TSBs, and then threads can be started for individual gen specific issues. Over time, hopefully most realted discussion will migrate there, or we can post links to (or move) other existing discussions, like frames, etc. :)

Because this was the same dealer that my wife used to use and we don't really trust them any more so I was already skeptical before I called.

She took her Matrix in for routine maintenance a few years ago. The service dept tried to convince her that she needed work done on her AWD system.

Trouble was - she didn't have an AWD Matrix.

We don't go there any more.

I just expected them to confirm that my Sport was on the recall and I hadn't got the paperwork yet.

(They were right - it isn't)

When I enter my VIN the only recall that shows up is something about the TPMS system not illuminating when the tires are low. Kinda thinking I'm going to let that one be.

just checked my '07 DCLB with no steering controls and it has no outstanding recalls... and my airbag light is on with no codes showing up on my code reader.

guess I'll have to actually talk to a stealership :(

So, since both Toyota dealerships said there is no recall for the clock spring on MY truck (because of the VIN), I took it to our local non-dealer toyota specialists who we trust and would rather give money to.

They just called me and sure enough - the code says the clock spring is bad.

It's going to cost me about $350 to get it fixed.

Since it won't get inspected with the light on, I have to do it now.

I am going to fight this with Toyota, where should I start? (Not the dealership)

    Anybody have any contact #s?

    Thanks.

For anyone having an airbag issue on a 2nd Gen Tacoma, this is the solution that worked for me that I documented here.
