It would be nice if they throw in the 4.6 in the taco but highly doubt it with 15/20 city/hwy rating on a 4x2 plus it would take away sales from the Tundra. All a guess though but who knows, they just might put the 3.5 in there for mpg. After all, the Federal standard for mpg begins on 2016 and that includes trucks.

not ever with the 2016 requirements for light trucks being at 28.8 mpg.

Sadly, I don't expect the next gen taco to be better than we currently have now with stricter emission and mpg requirements or Toyota going "green" with the stupid cartridge type oil filter.

They might just turn the taco back into a taquito.

 

Toyota has to start to reach the goverment's standard for gas milage so i guess thats why the 3.5 a few more ponies and better gas milage with the six speed trans.

 

I wonder if it would boost up resale value it the tacoma line was ended...

 

Really.why would toyota end the tacoma when the other big three will not be selling there smaller trucks .it;s just toyota and nissan then.it;s one of the best sellers for toyota.

 

If there's any truth to the 28.8 MPG by 2016, that could be a Tacoma killer right there... Either that or the Tacoma will get even bigger and get the V8 so it'd be classified as a full sized (hell, it's already almost the same size as the old Tundra).

 

Highly unlikely. It would take away sale from the Tundra. Though I bet the next gen will have plasti dip as an option.

It should be noted that this requirement only applies to "class 1" pickups with GVWR <= 6000 pounds, which means Tacoma and NOT Tundra.
* this explains why the American car makers are dropping their mid/compact pickups. Class 2 and up pickups (i.e. Tundra) can still be fuel guzzling hogs like they've always been.

It should also be noted that some configurations of Tacoma are already able to hit this requirement.

I think that what we can look forward to for the next redesign, is LOWERING, higher gear ratios, and a larger price gap between the 4 and 6 cyl in order to make the 6-cyl less appealing. Maybe standard aero-cap, which would probably yield 3-4 mpg highway, and some aerodynamic front end changes.

 

In other words, it's gonna be fuggly.

You really want the Taco to go full size huh? Well they charge almost as much as full size so who knows.

My cousin works for Toyota in Australia and during summit meetings that they have, there have been no talks of bringing the Hilux here.
