Is there a way to temporarily disable a lit airbag light? My airbag light is on, most likely due to the spiral cable failure (recall), and I need to get a safety check done. The truck won't pass with the light on, and unless Toyota comes up with the new parts in a couple of weeks, I won't be able to get my safety check, which expires at the end of Aug. I don't want to take it in to the dealer to have them change the cable to the defective one, and have to take it back again when the new parts come in, so I was hoping that someone knew a quick easy way to temporarily turn off the airbag light.

I don't think the airbag light will cause you to be able to pass emissions. Unless HI is different. They usually are only concerned with the check engine light.

Hawaii dont got emissions. Where u taking it? Somewhere official like jiffy lube? I never go to those, theyre so strict. Go to gas stations, usually they just check your lights horn n wiper. I see You in kaneohe. Try the auto shop right after toyota on kam hwy on the right heading towards windward mall.

I ususally take my cars to a friend in Kaneohe who didn't pass my daughter's car because of the airbag light. If I go there and do the lights, brake, horn for him, he won't see it, but I don't want to hide anything from him. He is very strict, doesn't want to risk losing his safety check license. I just don't want to go to the dealer twice.

Have the dealer replace it and then inspect it. maybe they will just wave the light since it is a recall, if they don't have the parts..

Yeah, that's what I'll probably end up doing, but that will mean going back a second time when the correct parts come in. The less I have to go to the dealer, the better. Since my truck is out of warranty, the only reason I have to go there is for a recall.

Okay, if you're just waiting for parts, they'll usually pass the vehicle once you show you're in the process of fixing the issue. This usually means taking a copy of the parts order with you. Of course, different states have different requirements. Some require a pre-paid parts order (proof you're committed to the repair). Others require a statement from the dealer explaining the part is out of stock. Still others provide only a temporary until the repair is completed. Call the inspection facility, explain the problem, and ask what's required.
