Better tires for a TRD Sport?? (17")

So I was driving back from Florida a few weeks ago in heavy rain and hydroplaned going around 60 MPH. I managed to straighten it out but not before getting a head-on view of the trees, the median, and then the trees again. All in all I think I'm lucky I didn't just flip it. It was a bad stretch of road, but I effing hate the traction from these stock tires, and they will not be on my truck come winter (I'll be in Minnesota for Christmas).

My question I yield to the floor is what are your suggestions for 17" tires that will fit the stock rims and be good in the rain snow and off-road and not kill my milage and/or make me long for earplugs. Also I'm looking into a 5100/eibach lift setup (1.75/1.5) so taller is ok.

goodyear duratracs get my vote, they've done great in mud, dirt, sand, and water/wet roads too

 

Tried the Hankook ATMs, noisier that crap at certain speeds.

In the morning they are going bye/bye. I am trying the new Hankook RH12.

I'm happy with my tires. 265/65/17 Michelin LTX M/S2.

 

Increase your inflation pressure and reduce your speed.

At 28psi, any tire will hydroplane at 55mph.

Yeah, your right I'm THAT guy. My experience has been like others, the ATM's are not the right tire.
I don't use my truck here in Idaho for off roading, that's what I use my 4 wheeler's for.

I use my truck to get to the areas I 4 wheel in that no Tacoma would fit or make it.

That is why the Dynapro RH12 appear to be the tire for THIS guy.

I'm going to have to agree with Oz. The ATm's are a good all around AT tire. I have 15,000 on mine and they still look new. I've had no problems in the rain. They do make some noise at highway speed, but with radio on low you can't hear it. I like them. No complaints.

 

i just had to replace two of my atms, sad day but ive had problems with them. got a sidewall bubble the other day. also i slide all over the place with my hankooks

 

A highway only tire doesn't satisfy the OP's stated needs

Bridgestone AT Revo II is the best tire I have ever run and I've run plenty. Unless you're mudding off road, these will do fine. On road, zero hydroplaning, excellent wet braking, excellent mileage, quiet...what's not to like?

 

Happy with all around performance of my Nitto Terra Grapplers. Haven't had one uncomfortable moment on wet roads with them. They like to grab rocks on gravel roads but you have to compromise somewhere.

no one tire does everything.
"Slip sliding on the HIGHWAY", off-roading, snow, mud, blah, blah,blah.

Just adding my opinion like others.

Evaluate your primary needs and make a choice, best to be informed for that.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I'll definitely be looking into them and seeing what works. For what I want my gas milage will suffer a bit. the hydroplane was mostly my fault, having the cruise on didn't help things. The tires were at about 38psi, which I was still going too fast for. My gf panicking and grabbing my arms while I was trying to keep the wheels pointed down road was fun too. But since I hate the tires and they can't talk back I'll blame them.

 

I like my little Goodyear Silent Armors, quiet, great traction in any on road situation, wet or dry, does fine off road as well.

 

I'm getting the AT revos next for sure. Everyone I know with them love them and they last forEVER. I like my BFgoodrich Atkos but I might look for a more street friendly tire, because I run winters and winter rims anyways in the winter months

 

i like the Revo 2's as well
