Help: 2ohm or 4ohm IDQv3 10" for alpine pdx5

I'm trying to figure out the specific sub to get:
2ohm or 4ohm IDQv3 10" for my amp alpine pdx5

I'm only going to install 1 amp, and the pdx5 is it..
I'm considering a box from Mr Marv,
or the Super Crew Sound to save some $ as I really want a tonneau cover and motorcycle trailer...

After talking with marv and researching, the idqv3 seems like it will do quite well.

I'm definitely buying at least one. But i'm not sure if I'll want a 2nd later. if I do want to potentially upgrade later ( if a single 10 doesn't sound like I want ) which ohm sub should I get ? 2 or 4 ?

I have read up on ohm talk, but i'm not confident enough to pull the trigger as I really don't want to have to send it back for my ignorance.

The PDX 5 says it can put out 300w at 2 or 4 ohm so I feel like I have choices.

My thinking here is that if I want to add a 2nd subwoofer later, then either the 2 or 4 ohm version of this speaker is 'correct'

4 ohms with the correct wiring will give you a deeper sound.

And with a 4 ohm speaker, could I buy another 4 ohm speaker if I wanted a second sub ? or is that a waste with a pdx 5's sub channel ?

I had an RF punch 200x1 mono that I used to power 2 12"s in my old vehicle and it pushed 'em pretty well.

 

It does not matter if you get the dual 4's or the dual 2's. Your amp is rated to push 300 watts on a 4 or 2 ohm load.

The reason why subs have dual voice coils is due to its wiring flexibility not to make the "sound deeper."

If you wanna add a sub later on, then get dual 2's. You can wire each sub in series then parallel them together to get a 2ohm load.

That's what I was looking for... I knew I had some wiring options.. From my quick kreading I knew i could double or halve the ohm load based on the wiring..

 

I agree with elephatitis and if you even think you may add another sub later I would suggest getting a different amp that doubles power at 2 ohms (you will get a theoretical 6 db increase in output by doubling power as well as cone area. )

 

There's only one other thing to really note, the PDX series amps do a strange thing in that they treat 2Ω and 4Ω loads the same, so you don't need to worry as much.
However, if you were to replace the amp with something more traditional, I would keep with the 2Ω versions. Traditional amps care more about the ohm load, and will allow you to reach different wattages as a result.

Also, speaking to another guy here, he said that the PDX might be a little light on power. See if you can listen to a setup, or get some more advice regarding this.

 

I agree with Chjinckenmunga that with 2ohms you will be able to run them on more amps with the sound you want.

Why are you going with IQs anyway?

P3s in the supercrew is what I'm running and it slams pretty good. Those IQ 3s in that box gotta be super tight.

Dave: going with IDQ's because I'm sure they're at least a decent sub.

I got tired of researching online, in general car speakers are fairly tough to research. There is not a good spot to "go listen to stereo setups in 4d 06 tacoma's" and 'sound rooms' inside stores are not apples-apples with a truck cab. So I rely on reviews/tech summaries of others.

Basically, i'm convinced that my ideas here will not result in a shit-sandwhich system.

 

Definitely a lot better than "decent" IMO!

 

IDQ's consistantly bring me home trophies.

I just got the PDX-5 amp and the Image Dynamics IDQ 10" in 4 ohm...I haven't installed the sub or amp but don't let the small amp fool you. My birthsheet from Alpine for the amp is rated at 105w x 4 and 424w x 1.

Have you got your PDX-5? I know a Ebay store that sells them for $365/shipped out of Florida. Great store to deal with.

Yeah I already have the pdx.. basically just found lowest price with at least decent vendor reviews from ebay. It was fairly close to your price....

As far as the box, i'm still thinking. Mr Marv wants to make his presence felt in the Seattle area I think. But I'm still trying to shave some $$ because I want several new options for my truck... ( like racks/tonneau/trailer ) and that shit gets expensive.

 

i've had my pdx-5 for over a year now and let me tell you that i am still suprised by it. it is powering type components, type-r coax's, and a jl stealthbox. it is not crazy loud but it is perfect for what i want.
