So guys i have a chance to sweep up some 315/70/17 BFgoodRich tires with a little over half tread for a good deal, Think my 3" lift will allow such a tire to squeeze under my fenders without having to cut like crazy!!?

No. You would prolly need a body lift and different wheels.

Just tires, 315/70/16 BF goodrich TA KOs with about 60-65% tread, for 250 bucks. 4 tires. But if i have to hack the shit out of my truck im not down. If all i had to do was some trimming and maybe a cab mount chop i would have went for it, But no thank you if i need new wheels and shit.

Body lifts have their place. If done correctly and tastefully they work great for what you need them to do.

Doing it right means using quality materials, upgrading all hardware to grade 8, and only lifting the minimum necessary. Also, if you don't want to deal with steering extensions, don't go more than 1.5" max.

Check out 4crawler.com (aka Roger Brown) He does it right.

okay i found the body lift ordering guide for new tacoma pick ups but its so confusing! Grade 5 grade 8 hardware, Radatior brackets... C1 options d1... im so confused. i just want a full grade 8, 1.5 inch body lift with black blocks... and whatever else needed to make sure the body lift is done right to run with the 3" Bilstein 5100 lift with toytec springs and hopefully Dakars.

    Yeah.
Hey, thanks for all the responses. Did you live in the Wildwood up in the NW part of MO or the "new" STL suburb (where I live)?

I did check out TrailDamage and it didn't seem like Wheeler would be all that bad. I thought Bristol Head would be worse, but it does look easier than Wheeler. There are YouTube videos of Wheeler, but the camera flattens stuff so it is hard to tell the difficulty.

I think the plan will be to do Bristol Head first, and if that goes without incident I might try Wheeler and turn around if it gets too hairy. I hear there is a way to get into Creede from the back side from Bristol Head, but I don't think it is open to vehicles.

So what is so tough about Wheeler? Is it really that last section? What is tough about it? Looks like even a 2WD high-clearance vehicle could handle it if you drive smart.

I know what will happen, it has already been written. I will come back and place an order for an OME setup, sliders, and a plate bumper and winch. My wife will threaten divorce, I will buy her a new car, my kids will go to community college and life will go on.

Two wheel drive will get you no where near that final hill going up to wheeler lake.

Well you will find out early on in the trail if you need to turn around. 1st obstacle will require 4wd. I don't remember if I was locked in the rear or not on it. 2nd obstacle I was locked for sure. Sliders didn't get used until near the end but they got good scrapes on then. This was just at the beginning of July. My sig pic is on the easy line of second obstacle.

No BL for me. Most of my cutting and beating is done. Just need to figure out the fender flares. I have never welded plastic and I am pretty sure I will F it up. I am looking for a good deal on 17" rim with 315's. If I find that I will have some 285 duratracs on 16" rim for sale. :D
