I'm looking at my letter right now.

Doesn't say anything about "two weeks", it just says that I will get another notification when "parts are ready and preparations are complete"

And in the next paragraph, "Toyota is currently working on the remedy, You will receive a second owner notification letter when the remedy is available"

Yep you are right my letter does not say two weeks either, must have been the guy i talked to at the local dealer who told me it might take two weeks to get a second letter, they sure didnt want to give me my money back .

I guess i dont have to worry about parts or a remedy since i already paid the $483 bucks for the repair,i just want to be reimbursed is all.

Trust me you are not the only one waiting for a refund. So far toyota's treatment of customers that paid has been non existant. I was very specifically told in my conversation with toyota hotline recall department that NO refunds will be given until remedy is found and that refund is not guarantted. Have to get all your ducks in a row first with paperwork. They owe me $505 so i feel your pain.

Actually, you still have to worry about it depending on how long you intend to keep your truck.

Your replacement part was the same part that failed, and it will fail again.

OK Rich, let me be more specific,i don't have to wait for parts or for them to decide weather they are going to fix it any way ,i already had it fixed, and IF it fails again i will fix it again whether Toyota pays me back my $483 or not. But i do know one thing ,i will never buy another Toyota.

As far as Toyota figuring out the remedy i can do that for them easy, reimburse the people who already paid to have the repair done, and then fix the ones who haven't been fixed , its not like Toyota is bankrupt.

They know what the problem is, but they don't want to repair it with a part that is going to fail down the road.

In all likelihood, they HAVE the correct repair part, and production samples are installed in a steering column in the R&D lab being twisted and tilted 1000 times an hour by robots to simulate 10 years of consumer use.

Toyota is not bankrupt, but they already had a very costly recall on the accelerator assembly. They very well could go bankrupt if they issue a general recall and the very same part starts failing within 2 years.

I think we are all for toyota improving car safety. Buuut this is where it gets very squirly. At the core... refunds only apply to a number of toyota car owners who were out of warranty and had clock spiral assembly fail.

$505 is not a walk in the park. That is like half of vacation right there. Tick freaking Toc Toyota.

If your light is on, check with your dealer and they can check to see if you fall under the recall.

You can also create an account with Toyota's owner's web site and it will keep you updated.

If your light is not on, at this point, do nothing.
The dealerships do NOT have the ultimate replacement part. They are currently applying a band-aid fix to vehicles that already have "a light" by replacing the clockspring, but the replacement is the same part that failed and it will need to be replaced again when the final repair parts are available.

And you will have to replace it again when the new parts are available.

It's been over 4 months... they have got to be close to a solution!

I made a point to ask the service manager if this was the same part that came on the vehicle and he said it was a new part number. Here is the number they replaced with. If he lied to me, I will be back up there to the service dept. and also take the salesman with me that sold me the truck. I will also go somewhere else and trade this truck in and buy a new one from someone else. Is this a different part number?

I don't know the comparative part numbers, but the recall letter stated that the "remedy part" is being developed, and in the event the light comes on, the dealer will fix it. Another letter will be sent when the remedy parts are available.

The final "fix" parts are not yet available, and yes, the service manager lied to you. The part number may or may not be the same... but honestly, the final recall replacement part may or may not use the same part number.
In some cases, when a part is superseded, the "dash" number is updated such as "-Y1" becomes "-Y2", but in other cases when the old part is completely eliminated and no longer available, the replacement part may carry the same part number.
